i was watching the news and a commentator on msnbc really slapped our returning soldiers and veeterns who served in our armed forces down. he commentated that they should not be considered heroes because the word hero glorify war. this is a insult to those who gave their lives to protect our nation and our freedoms it goes to show how the left treats the men and women of our armed forces. this has been going on since the end of the vietnam when our guys came back to the states and were spat on and called baby killers. my uncles fought in the vietnam war and in the korea war and served in the military. also my grandfather was in ww2 and my dad served in the air force. they are heroes along with the rest of the brave men and woman who fought and died. this person should be fired from his job.

Posttraumatic stress disorder. Been part of warfare since pre history.

olaix: Can we say use/throw society?

Not really. Tody's soldiers get a hell of a lot more support for this sort of thing than their ansesotrs did. There should be far more however and we are working on it.

olaix: for what? some cause no one believe in?

Nope. Happened in all wars be it offensive or defensive.

I don't think that just because you wear a military uniform you should be considered a hero. Only if your actions are above and beyond the call of duty should you be considered a hero. If everyone that serves is a hero then that denigrates the word hero. I remember when I worked for a client of mine in Conneticut and I mentioned to him about the purple heart hanging in a glass frame in his home. He told me that they were out on routine patrol and the VC heavily mortared their position. He said the platoon took cover the best they could but that he did not consider any action he saw warranting a high honor. He seemed to think that the military routinely handed out medals to boost morale. He said most of the real heroes are still in country. I quipped "so thanks to Charlie you got decorated.

i have to disagree with u on that because everyday they spend on the field they are putting their lives on the line protecting this nation. some will be killed, others would be wounded and they come home. they are heroes in my book despite there are those who protest against them and call them names in which it tells me that they are ungrateful

I have always despised the people who protest the soldiers and call them names and let the government off free. Most of those people have never contributed much to society. They know what they are against but they do not know what they are for. If the Republicans and Democrats continue to be unable to work together then the days when US power can be projected in every part of the globe are numbered.

I agree they are putting their lives on the line.
Why is the bit that always gets me....
So what were these returning soldiers (the ones returning now) protecting your nation from?

BTW firefighters and rescue teams put their lives on the line everyday too...

it seems to me that there are alot of apathy toward our soldiers and misconduct when they fought to keep this nation from attacks from terrorists.

Must be receiving such treatments from those who question the alledged supposed imminent "terrorist attacks" ....

Politics and wars are like religion ... it only makes sense to those who believe in them.

To those who don´t, they see it as a waste of time therefore feel no respect towards those who represent that particular theme.

Same as people are free to believe in religion, politics and wars and express their opinions, they are also free to NOT and free to express their opinions.

If there is a lot of apathy and misconduct towards your soldiers must mean there are a lot of people who don´t believe in your politics and wars. IMO

I cant stand warmongers let alone glorifying war...I would say the true heroes in society are the people that really put their life on the line everyday, like Firefighters or Police officers. Someone like Nelson Mandela will always be a far bigger hero to me than all the so-called war heroes put together. peace

As usual, you ask a question then assault those who answer with hubris.

olaix: I am aware of it, then maybe Mr. Sherlock ( ) can provide a solution to it

If you were aware of it then why would you need to ask why vets comit suicide?

But are not in extended dangerous situations where they are committed to following the policies and directions of their government and leaders whether they agree or not.

So they are called up from the safety of their home in the states to go to that building then retrn home at the end of the day and given the choice if they wish to do so or, they are in a war zone for an extended period of time and told they are going to?

I have a son and daughter in the military. Until my son is back on US soil, I won't rest properly. When he is deployed I feel like an elephant is sitting on my chest. I can't breathe right...

I don't give a rat's butt who views who as a hero...it's all about opinion. I know my children are my heroes and there is no one who sits behind a computer and disputes heroism that can change my mind.

Regarding how our veterans are treated, I've seen way too many out on the street....very sad.

It was a rhetorical question, which I esteemed especially of you to understand, mr intellectual pursuit. Oh well. But I can teach you if you are a good boy :)

Now cough up the solution. But don't bother if a reaction to the effect from the cause is all you can dig up. Heard it all before, in all variations comfort

Are people not given a choice about whether or not they join the armed forces?

Mothers, fathers, families of soldiers, firefighters, policemen, etc. are heroes. What tremendous heroic effort it must take to alllow your child to put his/her life in harm's way for total strangers. hug

You have my utmost respect and admiration crazyblonde. flower
