You have to say one bad thing about the country, and one good thing. Just don't say only one thing. If you do that, you will be blocked immediately!

I like their marshallows.

I don't like their double standard of morality.

You can start by removing yourself. Marshmallows not (marshallows) are manufactured in the UK and exported to 56 or more countries. This is just a lame excuse to make yet another platform to berate the USA.
Saying I like candy and then a heavy insult,,,,,very insincere indeed.
I am proud to be "Banned" from this "thread". ,,,,lol..couldn't even pick a USA made confection??....
okdokey.

Ok, it should have been Marshmallows.

Maybe it's easier for me to not count my self as a citizen belonging to a specific country. I am half polish / half finnish, born in Sweden, and now I live in Norway. And I can criticize every country in the world. I find it interesting to hear about the misconceptions that people have about another country. I do know that the people aren't the government or the politics. Some people just don't care at all...

Zeb, please understand that a thread like this brings little positivity to the forums. There have been so many threads like this in the past, and they only breed hostility. Isn't there enough of that already? I usually stay silent and away from these threads, but even I become sad and frustrated over this trend.

Rather, how about a thread asking for those things we find appealing about Norway, Ireland, U.S., Canada, Indonesia, Australia, France, Russia, Slovenia, etc....

Marshmallows? Really? How about the U.S. record of global financial aid (i.e. Project Peanut Butter, pouring millions of dollars into getting clean water to villages, pouring millions of dollars into trying to find a cure for AIDS and diseases, how we send our sons & daughters to die for YOUR freedoms.

I like this (good thing) and have a few different ones for cold and warm water.
1951 Wetsuit
A wetsuit is a garment, usually made of foamed neoprene, which is worn by divers, windsurfers, canoeists, and others engaged in water sports, providing thermal insulation, abrasion resistance and buoyancy. The insulation properties depend on bubbles of gas enclosed within the material, which reduce its ability to conduct heat. The bubbles also give the wetsuit a low density, providing buoyancy in water. The wetsuit was invented in 1951 by the University of California at Berkeley physicist named Hugh Bradner.

I Don't like the fact that the USA is not more "Unified" ( I think it is a bad thing), I wish that more people here would pull together.

I could say something good and bad about the USA and still not make everyone happy on this earthlaugh

hmmm Lets see you started out with something good so will I grin

I love the pride that the majority of the people here take in their country. You see it so often many places just be somewhere here and watch their faces when our national anthem is played.

I don't like the fact that we are one of the most misunderstood countries there is. But even that provides me with much amusement. wine

Good!

I think you understand what kind of writing I will ban from this thread.

I could have choosed to say something bad and good about Sweden instead, but many thinks that Switzerland is Sweden. And not so many are familiar with the politics, trends in Sweden either.

And by choose one bad and one good thing, it's possible to put a main focus on the good thing.

About Marshmallows - when I studied theology at Lund's university one of the grocery stores had a shelf with "America stuff", and the marshmallows were so great. Fresh and they just melted in my mouth. And the syrup to pour on my pancakes. How I have looked for it again, but never found it.
And when I think of the positive side of the spirit of entreprise, I get inspired by that a lot of americans sees failures in business as a way to learn and move on. In Sweden, a failure shows that it wasn't your road in life. It's like you only have one chance to success. But it's about to change...bit by bit.

Zeb, just as all marshmallows are not of equal quality, not all Americans have the same moral standards...

for me what I do & don't like about my country:

Like: our National Park System - it preserves for posterity some of the most beautiful bio and geo diversity in the world (I may do a picture thread on that to illustrate my choice)

don't like: that by & large, people take the above for granted. We need to emphasize an appreciation for our environmental protections and the positive impact they have on our country - most US citizens have NO idea how hard others have worked to protect their air & water & scenery

That to me is so sad. I do not look at a situation as either won or failure sometimes it just takes me a little longer to get where I am going. wink

it's interesting that you should say that! most everyday Americans are sctually pretty removed from gov't (just liek anywhere else)

unless they have a son or daughter overseas in the military - even then all we care about really is the safety of our relative...obviously I can't speak for all Americans but that is my observationteddybear

I have a very clear perception and make a difference between the USA as a country and the USA as a ideology ( thins that I just wrote, make sense in my language)...laugh

Common folks or ordinary people can`t be responsible for the action of their government and when I say Government , I don`t mean the public figures who we see on TV with certain titles written under their name

I think I understand what you mean. Even with a reprsentative form of gov't not all interests are going to be representated equally, and everyone (both American and non American) is going to have their own interests. Many don;t pay attention to the gov't at all....in a way we are responsible because we voted for our politicians. So we are responsible to voice our opinions & to vote but many opt out of that and therein is a danger of our country be run by active special interest groups - when the common man no longer participates

BTW Boban I happen to be a hug fan of our Western movies! (cowboy boots & levis) do you ever watch them?

I appreciate that you wrote this and trust me I have a much more nuanced way on many things.

And my intention was to bring positivity. But it seems like it's good to mention bad in the same sentence to get the attention for bringing the good things up.

I really don't see a problem with the thread. Perhaps people's reactions are more telling. People need to react to the thread in a positive and adult manner.
