He was a coward. After a year with him he just stopped calling. When I finally caught up with him he said he knew I wanted a committment and therefore "I ran, cause that's what I do". And that's after I gave him a huge amount of money. A gentleman would have said.....Thank you for everything. I know you want a committment but I'm not ready, etc. I'm sorry to hurt you but I'd rather tell you then just disappear......which is what he did.

It's sad but I agree with her mother maybe because women have a shelve life - if you are not going to marry her then she needs to find a husband and would be wasting her time being in love with you.... is that possible the thought here?

yes,Jean.Its traditional here for young people to get married.if u see a man over 35 or 40 being single ,then people will see u not normal person.

It's a dilemma for men isn't it? Dating with the idea marriage in mind or just dating someone you love with no marriage in mind - one is good for the man, one is good for the women in a society that wants everyone married and part of a family.

That's not true. My husband was an alcoholic and I stayed with him for seven years. And after our divorce we were best friends. He wasn't a bad man, just a man that had alcohol dependency. We had a daughter and it was important to me to keep him as sober as possible so that he could see her. I pulled him out of many bars and took care of him when he got sick. And when he died, I felt the loss very deeply. That was 37 years ago and I still put flowers on his grave.
