And their great great grandchildren.
We're lucky we haven't supported as many companies that can't compete on a world stage due to our high labour costs and just let them go to the wall unlike what the US did and dismally failed.
Our farmers are still competing on a world stage without govt. subsidies unlike US farmers and even with our high AU$.
The only companies that seem to be able to afford to hire people at these high level incomes are our govt's and the miners.
I believe until we see a lowering of the minimum wage and govt costs and regulations, the only retailers and manufacturers left standing will be multi national foriegn owned ones.

I was watching a documentary about the collapse of the american economy - seems they borrow from peter to pay paul, but then in comes mary and helen - couldn't believe that banks, insurance companies, high rolling businesses, wall street, all went under and it affected other countries with regards to the top name insurance and banking companies... the bubble burst and at the end of the day, the everyday citizen was the loser - super etc.... unbelievable, and these people are supposed to be tops in the economic, accounting, market... go figure...confused confused

The govt was dumb to bail out banks whose funds were still tied to over inflated properties with no capitalfrom their borrowers built into those loans.
They should have let the banks go into liquidation.
Then have no executive salaries to pay out and just have bought the loans from the liquidator for a bargain price that way giving them some equity within the loans they absorbed before later selling the loans off to a financially viable institution in China.
