None, but as it stands, we have a moral obligation to uphold safety, care and so forth, so although, I wish immigrants would come by the right channels, when they dont, unfortunately, we need to be seen as doing the right thing for our fellow human beings.. 
although, that last boat that got itself into trouble within 50kms of Jakarta should have had a moral obligation to not call australia for help, they should have called the indonesia authorities, but clearly, they did not have faith that anything would have been done re their plight, so good ol aussies had to help out...
and in watching the video on this, the indonesian authorities did admit they are not equipped for this type of thing.
They should all be housed in remote communities to help those towns schools, shops and other facilities stay open.
Funnelling $$Billions into maintaining Christmas Island to prove what?
At the end of the day most come over to the mainland anyway.

It is something to think about when you compare the fraction of boat people we take in compared to other countries who have Africa on their door step, Mexico, Cuba etc, etc...
The few thousand boat people we get on Xmas island is like a drop in the ocean compared to a weeks illegal border jumpers between Mexico and the US

would be easier and cheaper putting them on the next plane home....

We need people to build our nest eggs for retirement as not too many people are putting their hands up to leave their families and fifo work the mines and dig the irrigation channels up in the north west or work on the new farms the channels will open up.
