Merriweather: Hi Serene, You are quite right... head down, bum up and don't pay no mind to what others do..

But I take breaks for a smoke... and although they are not encouraged, I nick off when I want to... but I always work overtime to compensate my breaks... however, I dont own a mobile phone,

so I dont have phone breaks like everyone else...

so I dont feel a bit guilty ...not at all...

Ok Seren you both are correct :)
Only thing merriweather no smoke breaks allowed except for your ten minute morning tea break and lucnh break .when i smoked it turned me into a far worse chain smoker than i already was .And no mobile phones allowed on your body while u work .only allowed at morning tea and lunch times .
Unless your a smoker or standing with a smoker you arent permitted to your car or outside unless its lunch time something about stealing products and being an unpaid break .

I only work OT when forced but I'm normally stuffed after 8 hours but thats me .Co workers trying to make me feel guilty and goading me into working ot doesnt work.
I've actually turned quiet at work there are cliques and 1 clique wont talk to me full stop. When I talk about work i get my head bitten off last time I retorted Im doing my job see the team leader if theres a worry .Then i reported the person didnt do any good mind you but i felt better lol

I lost my job on July 1 two years ago.

By law they are supposed to give me medical insurance until the end of the month. When I inquired about that I was told "we don't do that". So much for the law.

They are also supposed to give me unused vacation days. When I inquired about that I got the same response "we don't do that".

They even tried to wiggle out of unemployment but they lost on that one.

Guess where I worked...........in a law office.frustrated

Micky, I think you will find that the company for which you work is in breach of industrial and taxation law in several ways.
Companies are required by law to put sick leave and all other entitlements on a pay slip. Even if the money is deposited directly into a bank account, the company is required to give you a pay slip, whether that be electronically or physically.
The company is also required by law to give you a physical group certificate.
If you are not a member of the relevant trade union, it is time to join.

It's no wonder people don't want to employ new workers, too many out to get all their lurks and perks. If sick leave is what you're after, maybe a council or public service job would be suit?dunno

Unlike the West Torrens council I live in now they always seem to be working

A lurk or perk is something on top of what the award for your job is.
Getting a physical Group certificate is not a lurk or perk, it is a right.

The award I am in allows 8 sick days a year, 3 days without certificate. And they accrue. I know I can ring our Paymistress at any stage and ask how many days I have up. Gee we have one long term employee retiring at the end of the month and the Paymistress is encouraging her to take her sick leave using stat decs as you dont get paid for days accrued.

A good employer will support their workers, it doesnt always happen but sometimes you can be lucky.

gee Daggy, I dont think I would want to be employed by you if you think getting payslips and group certificates is a perk!

While we are talking about sick days...

There are people at work who are prone to catching colds and flu regularly. They have used up their sick days, so they come to work anyway....

I guess I do get a bit annoyed. I hate that people just dont stop home til they are well... sigh

There's a beautiful coastline where I live Micky, when out walking into the reserves along it, you'll sometimes happen upon a little picnic in the middle of this peaceful environment, not a mowers or shovel in site

surely the money in the bank is the main worry these days as many other people will be job hunting soon with the building industry going into meltdown, it employs people in so many different sectors, not just the tradies.

Daggy you sound like the doctor I went to see a couple of months ago...

He seemed to think that because we compete with China that it is ok for workers to get injured to keep the bottom line.. That as a worker I should expect to get injured (even when I tried to get help to stop injury)because to be competitive that is what the company has to do.

I tend to disagree with that line of thinking as now the company has had a claim against their Worker's Compensation Insurance, which in the long run forces up their premium costing more overall than the simple help in the beginning would have.

so which is more important... money, short term? Or long term? Or the people the company relies on to get the job done?
