Too many variables to just answer a question like that.
First of all most people who are going to post are going to do so from the depth of their own experience of what "they" perceive as "humiliation" ...
The bigger the ego of the person the more likely they are to feel humiliated ...

You have given no time frame from when the break happened to when it may ressume.People as they age change opinions, their character, traits etc, etc
I do believe that some break ups happen because its the wrong time and not the wrong person. Just because you didn't get on when you met at 19 does not mean you wouldn't make a great relationship in your 40's for instance.
Often when relationships end, there is a mix of emotions, anger, betrayal, frustration, etc.....when they are mixed together they will/could easily cause both partners to say or do things they regret later, things that are out of character.
Break ups are painfull, for both parties for often different reasons. Why not when the dust has settled, given a lenght of time for healing to happen and for attitudes to perhaps change, give each other another chance, especially if lessons have clearly been learnt.

Oh dear, Yes is simplistic!!! Havn't you noticed in the forum my own quotation??? Not unless you both have grown as individuals, if you haven't it will only be a matter of time before everything that happened, will happen again. It is rare that all the blame could/should be put on one partners shoulders, that would mean then, you both are at fault for something being wrong in that relationship.
Have you taken responsibilty for the things you lack/ed or done wrong and have taken steps to change.
