mariannaa: No idea if it depends on the Embassy, the American consulate in Italy could check the copy I sent them, so I am out and it was the wisest action I could do...

you didn't even go there in person? You just mailed them a copy? In any case, I am NOT going through that kind of trouble. I have so many ways to find a fake. I won't ask anyone for their passport and I am NOT sending a copy of mine to anyone. Even if the Embassy says the passport is genuine there is no proof it is the passport of the person I am dealing with. Besides I know how to "doctor" a copy of any document.

This is complete bull, no one in their right mind sends a copy of their passport to some one else, and I can't believe any embassy or consulate
would check it out for you either.

HuggerMan4U: Thank you. Here is the mail I got today from a 40-year-old woman form California. I thought this was pretty suspicious, even though she gave her full name. She looks white, but her English skills make her sound like a scammer. Needess to say, I didn't answer her mail. Being that I've been scammed before, I'm wary and getting smarter all the time.

"Hi hun, hows you? i will love to know you more.Kindly send me an email on xxxxxxxxxxxx9@yahoo.com i will be waiting to hear from you.

With love

Xxxxxx Xxxxxx

What ya think?

Bad English skills, delete her email...

I dunno... should be easy enough to cross reference the passport number. They don't need to analyse it. dunno

mariannaa: That man was not so clever, he has no future as a scammer...

They are not clever, they are cheap labour in organized crime. I have read somewhere that they work in a kind of 'scam centres' where there are many employees sitting at computers and on phones and doing their scam job. Possibly getting commission rather than all money for themselves. There is no point in getting upset about scammers, they are nuisance like mosquitoes and flies, no more! laugh

mariannaa: I met someone on this sitewhose passport, checked by the American Embassy was false. Everything seemed to be perfect with that man. Unfortunately he was not American but I wonder if people like him could be hackers or dangerous or simply liars. However, it is done and I have had a really bad experience.

Who in his right mind would send a copy of his/her passport to anyone in a web site???

There are other ways to check on the authenticity of people.

Asking for a land phone number could be a start. At least you get the country for that person but that will not ensure you that person is not a scammer.

Other would be to get into a meeting like the ones in CS however it will require taking some time to know the person.

Keep safe!
