When I sit in a livingroom chair I use the sides of the chair to lift me up because of a bad knee. I just tested to see what I do with my arms when I get off a chair that doesn't have sides and I see that sometimes my arms are at my side and sometimes out in front of me.
BTW, I took a peek at your profile. I'm envious of where you live. Absolutely beautiful!

I've noticed that men in the U.S. rarely put hands in pockets anymore, and you used to see that all the time. It was kind of a swagger, laissez-faire sort of thing. Now, it seems like it has lost it's "cool". You even hear some bosses/authority types say, "Don't stand around with your hands in your pockets", or "get those hands out of your pockets". I admit it irritates me, too, it looks rather lazy. To me, anyhow.

I have always heard that when people stand with their arms and hands hanging staight to their sides they either come from a military back ground or prison when arms are crossed they are guarded there has been many studies on this subject. It depends alot on my enviroment on how I stand. Am I comfortable? But in all honesty I am the type of person I hardly stand still long enough to have my hands at my side for any extended amount of time I also talk with my hands
