I think he's referring to Peter, John and Lazarus who were always thought as Jesus best friends. It was never known who his best friend was but Peter knew Jesus more than the other disciples, even John. Which is why his denial of knowing Jesus was a greater sin than Judas' betrayal.
I guess he's referring to Mary Magdalene as the lover the child they had as the Holy Grail.....but who knows. What's the current Pope's name. Maybe he's referring to him...
