Three weeks ago one of the new drivers got totally lost on his run, he was more concerned about the other drivers having to help him out later to finish his run, I was the nearest truck and at the time just around the corner, so I showed him where he was where he had too go and assured him the other two drivers on his run didn’t mind helping him out when they finished their sections of the job, a week latter he was in a hospital after having a breakdown, today another driver called up on the two-way that he was suffering chest pains? And finding it hard to breath, he was parked at the depot an asked for an ambulance, so as I parked up he was getting carted off to hospital, he only said this morning that when I went in for my op that he would be getting heaps of overtime, are people taking their jobs to seriously these days? I keep asking the boss when do I get too train the new guys to show them the ways off the dark side!

How about you? Is work getting too stressful? Or do you just put your brain in park mode and go about the day as I do, as my job is very repetitive but you still have too keep a sharp eye out as I am on the road all day in a ten tone truck,

Hi Blizzard... ( hope you foot is not giving you curry )

Jeez, now that poor colleague of yours.. that is taking your job very seriously, but would he have been better if he had done some preparation work, and visualised in his head a map that he studied the night before ??? , clearly, he didn't, and then that became his own problematic stress??

Yes, my job is stressful... I have 2 jobs, 2 contracts...

I make sure that I have notes, and to do list going, and when on Tuesday I leave the HR job, I make notes for the following Monday morning in my diary, a re run of what I was up to...
It doesn't always work, but it sure makes it better..

My other job is dealing with people, so that is just different every five mins, plus for 1.5 hrs a day, I relieve main reception, so there comes along another set of troubles..( usually to do with the car pool)

So what I have done is created a work book on Excel, called ' Finding Aids' and within each sheet which I have named.. I add all the relevant emails so that way, I can update and send it to all the staff to be able to access all new procedures, staff changes, phone number extension changes with ease. I have included all the Emergency Relief places, etc..

I did a Myers Briggs training last Friday. I am a IS T P ... totally look for the most expedient way... grin

Actually the boss had rushed him into the job because of my injury? The boss doesn’t want me working any extra shifts so as not to injure my ankle anymore? He doesn’t mind me picking up the slack off the new guys as that’s part of the job? As they are new, also when a truck goes down and needs repair the other drivers are required to finish his run,

It’s the bosses problem atm, as I have to go for the op in two weeks and could be off for up too 12 weeks, one guy is not fully trained or confidant, and another guy just had a possible wakeup call, the boss is going to end up short of drivers real quick at this rate,

I don’t know about HR people as all off them at work have left in the last year, leaving the safety guy running it all, even the executive manager has left or is on charges?

But its an exciting job ATM

Must admit I used to get stressed out .
These days I just do the best I can and keep happy .
When I get snowed under and my line backs up with work . Always get told the same answer no sorry no one can help. Usually a driver will help me out while my own team ignores me .
My job is a 2 person job higher ups insist its not dunno
One of my jobs at 6.30 is to pack up the early runs eskies . They had 3 of us triple handling while i packed up an esky the other 2 would unpack and add extra stock !!!
I querried this and was told we are behind when I said why was I not stopped from packing .All I got was a stupid look and thats your job!! Even though the work wasn't ready doh
So yes while my job can be stressful and bosses are reactive .I just stay happy head banger

Yep my job gets really stressful at times, mostly because we have a boss that has no clue about how to run her business.

Arent all bosses the same whether they own the company or are employed by them .
We are supposed to have a securied place of employment you know how many times I have entered our building at 6am with the door wide open. Not to mention a gate next to the door !!!
When reported to my boss oh the door sticks!!
So why is the door really left open .Because the brown nose women who smoke and have coffee in the carpark with the boss at 6am leave it open .
Boss refuses to accept that happens !!
We had a training session last week the trainer said "when you have your monthly assement ".I piped up in front of my bosses boss in 18 yrs we have never had one of those .
Wonder if we will now rolling on the floor laughing

dont hold you breath waiting Micky, I have worked where I am at present for 5 years, and we have never had a fire drill even though there has been countless requests. HR is looking into it,.. still
The only time we have evacuated is when one of the machines actually had melted wire which set off the alarms. Thankfully as that showed up that the newly installed turnstile didnt have an "escape" setting that security could trigger.

Just as well it was only a melted wire or there may have been 50+ melted staff....

I love it when I can turn off the brain and do something with my hands - they mostly work on automatic. The rest of the time it's the brain that has to do all the work and there is never enough time to get done what needs to be done. Brain's getting older!

I agree. I work as a teacher and while you may think it's the kids that would cause the most stress, it's actually other adults. Hidden agendas and office politics cause me the most stress. My solace is to work in the garden on the weekends. Give my brain a rest and work with my hands. I find satisfaction in that most of all.

As a teacher, you work 9-3 and only 40 weeks a year. Imagine working for a Council where you have to work 9-5 (and expected to be available 24/7) and have to explain how the expensive rates fund an art festival while there is no footpath to get there.frustrated

My first ex is a teacher and let me tell you they do not work 9-3! The preparations and assessments take heaps more time and weekends. And report time, each weekend and evening the family paid. If it wasn't for the holidays they would not do it for the money.

Hi Wash,

Its no secret that you have had stress in your job role, but clearly Lillie was sharing, and it really doesn't matter how many hours you work, if you feel stressed, I dont think it really matters how many hours you put in, I think the operative word was sharing stressed work places...

Anyway, I think it takes a special kinda person to be a teacher... so good onya Lillie, we hear you...wine

Please don't think teachers have it any harder than any other job, yes we do put in hours after work and on weekends but every job has its challenges and after hours stresses. Teachers are no different. Any job has its challenges. professor

mickyj63: RDO's I'm about to stick my my hand out at work .I'm upto 22 rdo hours we are not allowed to accure them .So I'm asking for 22 hours overtime seein they wont give me an RDO that I'm past having!!!

Teachers job no thanks .Me I work 6.30am to 3pm . these days after 8 hours(7.60 on the paypacket) I can walk out no OT is forced on me until stocktake week!!
Old days we had to do OT at least twice a week no way to get out of it . it was the norm funny how things have changed bosses got in trouble for giving us rosters with overtime on them .It appears they agreed not to do that in our EBA and then forgot !!
RDO's now thats different unless they wanna give you an RDO roster they wont do a thing !!!

Well Micky, if they set you hours outside of your EBA, then you have a right to say no...

or go to your union person, and get them to say no..

Bosses are not perfect, they make mistakes too...

serene56: My boss IS a woman

She's a disgrace, seriously

My boss is a woman too... today I went to her office, something that I avoid like the plague, because I am totally scared of her..

I said...

" I dont have the tools to do my job"
she replied..
" all you need to do your job is a seat, desk and computer"

Errm... such a caring retort...
doh

Sometimes I just want to walk out... and I came very close to it this morning...

sigh
