I really don't think it's big brother, more likely the marketing dept of some CC company trying to get a leg up on the competition by taking the "drudgery" out of having to swipe your card through the little slot. 
OMG the cost/benefit analysis of this idea is so bad it probably wont survive.
Try to imagine some thief with one of those readers walking down the isle of a plane on a 5 hour flight. He could harvest enough CC's to become a millionaire even before the plane landed.

In the TV I have seen ads of metal wallets to avoid that. But at some point you have to take the card out of the wallet.

That sounds like a good idea ooby. Someone should try it to see if the card will still work on a normal scan.
This could solve the problem!
It's location would not interfere with the metalic strip used for scanning.
I didn't like that he was able to turn his hotel room key into a credit card for purchases!
The thieves could have a hay-day!

In the video they suggest buyng that plastic sleeve. I've heard it doesn't work. They also suggest using aluminum foil. This is a credit card not a sandwich.

I agree ooby, this has nothing to do with Big Brother.
Now that's a very scary thought of what a thief could do on a plane!
Or anywhere else for that matter.
People must insist that the Banks rethink this method and get rid of it and FAST!

I watch the video Monte and I am aware that companies have made these little wallets for your protection, but it just shouldn't be in use to begin with!
