Carl96190: As a civil engineer, you should have a better grasp of how statistics and research works.
Look up what the US Air Force found in its research. If you want to read that, as well as a treasure trove of forbidden knowledge, you can find it in a book called The Bell Curve, by professors Herrenstein and Murray (University of Philidelphia Press).
As an example of the forbidden knowledge, that research also answers the question of why Asians are such bloody awful drivers (on average).
One individual (your mother), or a group biased in favour of spatial ability (female engineers), does not invalidate the findings of a much larger study.

And yes, I have studied statistics. A lot of my work has to do with that boring, mundane and easily manipulated thing that is used to prove whatever you want. But I normally work on the half-full principle and look for the positives.

Statistics will prove that Blizz is not a good role model as a parent. Life will prove otherwise.

And if you want to go into statistics about awful drivers, look at the road toll for USA and many Eastern European countries. Victoria is one of the top places for road safety. Just under 300 fatalities from 4,286,284 registered vehicles (1 in 24,287). Better still the population is 5.603 mill (1 in 18,667). Oops, not a good statistic to use.

Hang on. We had a Japanese driver in Fomula I Racing. Does that mean that they are good drivers because the 160 whatever countries can't make it?

And back to USAF statistics. Are they looking at the whole USA population or just those that applied for the program?

Firstly congrats to Blizz and kid for the achieving the license, Blizz you are probably going to struggle to find your car on the driveway now!

Carl, there is pone problem with statistics...they are just that statistics, an average over a pool of people, there will always be exceptions to statistics.

My experience has been that out of the family I grew up in.. 2 females, 4 males, that percentage wise (100%) female are good on the roads, where as 50% of the males are good in charge of a vehicle. In fact one brother we hate getting behind the wheel of anything as he has managed to tip a vehicle on its side at 30km. (we still cant work out exactly how he managed it!)laugh

Actually she has still only taken the car out once? She was going to take the car out today but her mum insisted that she took her car out instead? Her mum drove here then drove her to her home so the kid could drive her car? Apparently it’s a competition now? Oh well you get that, saves me on fuel cost? Well my car is faster! it’s a V6,
doh grin cheers

I have 3 4-cylinder cars at my place. One I have gotten up to 83km/hr (GPS), two to 130km/hr. Would have been more except that it scares the crap out of me on our roads (comes from not setting the speed limitor or not paying attention on remote country roads). And the other drivers who want to do stupid things.

Wife #1 got her license at 17. I was virtually the sole driver for the next 10 years. And over the next 15 years, I was the one who had to drive. And it was the insurance in my name that had to claim for her crashes. She has such a good driving record compared to me.

Don't make it a competition. Let her use your Pajero whenever she wants. The more vehicles she drives, the better she will be.
