Just read the reports of the possible number of people involved in the charges against JS??

and the removal of his grave headstone by his own family? I find that strange as this has happened before any court case? How will this be verified/confirmed if he is dead?? Sorry, I am just thinking out loud, we are not lawyers???

I do remember him from radio and TV, left UK originally in about 1976, but returned on and off, I left in 1986 for Australia. He was held in such high esteem by so many people, what a shame?? sigh

It's a shame the man isn't here to defend himself, seems odd that all these people are speaking out after he has passed dunno

I am waiting for the revelations that whenever Saville was questioned over groping girls or they said anything to anyone they were not believed. He thought he was untouchable and various people who knew protected his outward innocence knew he always used his fame and time as a wrestler to make puerile threats. He even had an unofficial mafia of 4 to back his threats up who went with him, but it was all hushed up until just before the announcement of the police enquiry in 2007.

Even his own family aren't defending him. Doesn't that tell you something?

I heard they said they are disgusted by the allegations and removed the headstone from the grave.

Apparently it's just left a small hole with no bush around it.

Just what he would have wanted.

Seems he was untouchable, a lot was known about him by colleagues etc, but they chose to remain silent because he was a powerful man back in the day.

all that time ago kids were not beleived and jimmy was a big name. Even police in that era hid a lot of complaints. same as with priests etc just coming out the wood work now. It is all very sad that such a name was into these things. It still happens now but at least we are more aware and the young would speak out. In my era we just thought we had to hide and keep out someones way that we know was freaky but never thought of telling anyone, the disgrace it would fetch on ourselves and family well that is the era this man worked in. Just glad life is different now

mickeyscouse: No, I heard it on the radio this morning, they mentioned the Daily Telegraph, I just looked online they are carrying the story.

Okay, thanks Mickey. I have googled.

I looked up the hospital stuff having read Crystal's post and found this link:

Two statements struck me:

"Mr Bannister said the hospital was surprised by the allegations.

"We did know him over a long period of time and there was nothing in his behaviour that would have given us cause for concern," he said."

And,

"The former Thames Valley police officer, from Milton Keynes, said he was told by nurses that they tried to keep young girls away from Savile when he visited."

It sounds a bit like, "I don't know why that dog bit, it was completely unprovoked and there was no reason whatsoever".

Godsgift: Jaqs. I don't think the idea of no one being held culpable is going to fly. I live in a country where nobody seems to have to answer for anything. But reading between the lines here between Janet Street Porter and Esther Ranzen, I don't think he acted alone and that other famous people involved are still living and are still a danger to children. Whatever a government or BBC investigation come up with, the
only one that interests me is the police one.

I can't watch any videos GG, so I may have missed something.

When I mentioned culpability, I was referring to those like the nurses for example, who kept girls away from Saville obviously knowing that he was a creep, but unable to take other action for whatever reason. The "whatever reason" needs to be investigated and the information used to protect children in the future. This is where I think people should be able to speak with impunity and for a public enquiry not to be a witch hunt and blame fest.

It hadn't occurred to me (rather stupidly) that Saville might have been part of a "team" shall we say. In that respect I agree with you, a police investigation is paramount and the first port of call.

Godsgift: Janet Street Porter too...she was on BBC's Question Time saying she had No Voice at the time to say anything...can you believe it? Looking after number one at all costs I'd say.

I still don't understand this.

Wouldn't the logical line of thought be to find out why they felt they had no voice, before attributing blame?

Isn't it logical to find ways of enabling complainants and disabling abusers over and above attributing blame to people who might not had had it within their power to complain at the time?

I think we become angry and afraid and hit out before thinking about how to protect children, sometimes.

I have read all the comments here and I think a point is being missed. We are judging all the news now on his dispicable deviant behavour by todays standards. He started all this 40 odd years ago and life was different so different. When the child line came into play people of 70 and 80 years old came onto line and told for first time of how they had been molested by family members all there young lives. These facts had just been put into dark files in there minds. Some it had spoilt adult lives some just forgot all about it until child line came into play. So to now start judging people for what they did or did not do 4o years ago is unfair I think. It is so very good now that children can speak out and some little darlings use that now to their advantage blackmailing adults and teachers for touching them. Anyway all in all it is good that this man is exposed so that he does not go down in history as a good man. Also bringing it out into the open may expose other abusers who are still at it. New codes of conducts will now emerge for organizations even for the famouse they will not escape the net. That to me is more important than blaming people who lived by different set of rules then.

sorry no way to correct my statement when I said blaming people for what they did or did not do I meant in the exposure of such behaviour not the doing of it.

Exactly, many of us *knew* it and experienced police dismissal, hiding evidence and corruption over such activities and less serious matters, especially here in the South in the 70's.

Very well explained.

Shocking... just shocking. Practically the whole of the UK thought he was marvellous and now we know we were wrong. It just goes to show how false and deceitful some people can be...

Hi TC
Well - Although I cannot possibly imagine what you went through at that age re Savile I am sorry to read of your experience, but pleased to see you confirmed what I said in a previous message.
BUT I don't suppose you would have been aware of the threats by him and his Mafia if anyone dared to say anything to him even older than you were at the time of your unfortunate experience at Eastry but believe me it went on. BTW - Do you remember the name of that place?
Cheers

Redex: So sorry tc that this has happened to you I hope this has not affected you too much in adult life. Sometimes when things are forgotten then such as this comes up its like its fresh all over again so they want a counseling service set up for people. I just feel for me anyway to keep talking about childhood things does NOT make it easier it can not be changed or erased best forgotten.
Wishing you well
Hi red im afraid to say it made me very wary of people and still am but im a great dad though over protective i feel thanks for your kind thoughts but its in the past now and was told that the police could not do anything when i enquired a couple of years ago
