Am watching and listening to events unfold in this fiasco with Lance Armstrong, (American Tour de France winner, for the uninitiated) and it is no surprise really is it? very mad

But it makes me so angry that he has got away with it for years, won all those Tour De France comps, got all the glory, money that goes with it, when he vehemently denied, constantly that he was involved in doping?? devil devil devil

Trouble is I think I heard something like a third of the winners in the last 10 yrs have been caught out using some kind of Performance Enhancing drugs at some time or other so they would be scratching to find any one to give the "1st place" to?

Sickening crying

Just confirms for me there is too much money in sport now and people will go to ANY lengths??

Had my rant blah blah blah blah blah blah super

Well that's the other thing - along with Andrew Johns (RL Aust rep player who confessed to doing drugs throughout most of his career doh )

What message does it give kids?? Take part in sport, cheat, win, collect all the medals and dollars - until and if you get caught??

Especially in A Johns case - he has just been made an "Immortal" frustrated frustrated frustrated

How could they do that?

I watched that show too Newlife, and I was so gobsmacked that he lied, and lied... still , he does not want to give back his millions.. and he would clearly end up without a thing, except a clear conscience.

Its sad in a way that athletes off all forms have been cheated in the past for their efforts by drug cheats!
It all come out eventually but the real sportspeople that don’t cheat are falling behind and leaving their sport?

So who was the real winner from all those years?

It’s a sad day when people that could have tasted the glory off winning fairly have now left the sport because off cheats!

Who is going to remember the changes off the medals? They have not only cheated against their competition but they also cheated the people that follow their sport?
doh

Clearly, there was no winner from all those years... sadly, from what we heard on the news program, the 'elite' group were all in it together, and the 'pane & acqua' group did not have a chance... sigh

Its not a particularly good message is it... wave

Years ago, when my boys were young, the absolutely thought Maradonna was a champ... until he was found out re his drug taking..

AT that point, I sat them both down, and talked with them to explain what I thought...

and they both took the Maradonna pics off the bedroom wall, and never spoke much about him again..

So, my point is.... parents need to step in at some point to set their thoughts right...

How about the Government takes away all funding for all 'elite' athletes, sportspersons, funding for Olympic/Commonwealth sports/games and just support grass roots sport?? Support local footy clubs, swimming, little athletics whatever?

Who wants to compete against cheats? Who wants to support your favourite athlete/sportsperson, idolise them, pay to go and watch them, see them represent your country only to find out later they cheated?? devil

Take the million dollars sponsorship deals, dollars for winning Olympic Gold and let's see who the REAL athletes are who do it for the love of the sport, to be the best without drugs?? dunno

And think of all the money that would be saved?? Give it to education or health for the less able bodies who bust their guts? hug

I grew up where the Olympics were for amateurs, didn't get any pay for the "sport" they were in. Except the Eastern Bloc countries back0handed their athletes by putting them through with 'scholarships' or having them in the army. This did lead to 'sonsorship' in the Western world to where we finally had the Yanks with their professional basketball players playing in the Olympics.

Many of the 'elite' cyclists never compete in the Olympics. Main reason is that the olympics have much more stringent dope-testing than the commercially run professional sport.

Hadley Thompson (UK) dominated the Decathlon for a decade or so. The one all-round athletic sporting event in the world. His training partner, Peter Hatfield (AU) was always close behind him but never able to knock him off his perch. Peter finally quit the sport when he found out that he was only beaten by a drug-cheat. And he was passed his prime for such a grueling sport with little income for the #2.

And probably time that the sponsors of these cheats finally sued them for their investment where the winnings were made under false pretences.

Itried for the olympics in teakwondo in the late eighties twice, and as far as i could tell ,at least in that section of athletes no one was taking any sort of drug whatsoever, the only thing we used to do and do a lot was drink a lot of vitamin enriched liquids,i used to consume two litres of v8 juice a day lol, didnt make any difference i never got in the squad, but they were clean. But i played baseball for aus twice once in the seventies and again in the eighties and only ever saw one guy take drugs on a team in cuba, and that made me really pissed off, they were better than us anyway, they didnt have to prove it any more.Drug takers should be put away

the govt hasnt control over athletes. Its long been a policy that has never been introduced, that all top athletes have their history checked out before they represent a country,so they can keep an eye out for potential cheats. There are drugs noiw that you put under your tongue, and when dissolved into the blood stream they are undetectable.Friend of mine has a heart defect and he was pulled over for a roadside drug test, and they found nothing, two hrs before though he dissolved a heart tablet under his tongue.so just goes to show what the olypic body has to deal with.
