Marc2010: It's unfortunately a shame for the Tour de France. A so beautiful race...

And for any sport.

The Tour de France is a cycling race. If I decide to use a motor cycle, would that be considered cheating? Do the rules prohibit the addition of motors to the bicycles?motorcycle motorcycle motorcycle motorcycle motorcycle

Yes, absolutely agree, such a shame that so many aspiring cyclists were duped... and hopefully, after this big sweep out, which is a good thing, the cycling fraternity can take heed of this event..

a New Start.... wave

I'm not sure if anyone else felt this way, but when Lance returned from his cancer surgery.. then came back to win ANOTHER Tour De France... I was suspicious then... I definitely felt for him and the health issues he had, but I sat back and thought how superhuman that was to achieve such a feat...

Most around me thought I was little too skeptical to think that way, see he had won so many races previously.

But drugs in sport I think will continue. Some have said they are all over, just the richer athlete have learnt how to mask it with other drugs to cover it up and all sport is, is the competition of whose steroid is caught and who wins by being scot-free

Hi DeerBwave

Well, money always seems to produce drug users, in many fields.. however, I think commonsense should prevail, and if a person looks to be superhuman, unless he is wearing a cape , I think there should be more vigilant ways to monitor ... and hopefully, for the sake of children , it is not a good idea to promote cheating and drugs...

I hope he has the oomp to admit that he was seriously wrong... but so far, nudding... wave

"...Cadel Evans urges fans: Don't abandon cycling
AFP
October 24, 2012 7:36PM

CADEL Evans has issued a plea for cycling fans not to abandon the sport as it reels from the Lance Armstrong doping scandal, saying it has moved on from the past.

Evans's comments come after US rider Armstrong was stripped of seven Tour de France titles, following the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) branding him the central figure in a sophisticated, systematic doping scheme.

"Behind the news, hysteria and sensationalism, I hope that people remember that the events being uncovered mostly occurred seven or more years ago, amongst a minority of those involved in a sport which has already changed and moved on," Evans said in a diary entry posted on his website.

Evans, 35, said recent events were "difficult and confronting" for both those involved in the sport and fans, and he urged people to commend the authorities who are succeeding in the battle against doping.

He said the sport had learned from the mistakes of the past and was now at "a level playing field where the hard work, meticulous equipment preparation and natural ability are winning the big beautiful prestigious races".

"For those who are disappointed with the situation right now: do not despair, do not abandon us now we are in our best years, preparing things for our most important moment yet - the future...," he wrote.

Earlier this week Evans acknowledged meeting a doctor at the centre of the doping scandal, saying he spoke to Michele Ferrari in 2000 but they never discussed anything untoward.

"There was never any discussion of doping or any sign of anything illegal," he said of his meeting with Ferrari, whom USADA has handed a lifetime ban for his role in an extensive doping network that included Armstrong.

Key cycling figures, including disgraced American cyclist Tyler Hamilton and Australian anti-doping expert Anne Gripper, have hailed Evans's 2011 Tour de France win as a victory for clean cycling..."

The drug cheats already have people working on the next performance enhancing/blood substituting thing in labs somewhere?? At the same time they work on something to 'mask' the drug if tested?? sigh

The drug testing authorities are behind the eight ball always, because how can you devise a test for a drug that has not yet been invented??

First comes the drug, then the test to detect the drug??

Just something I heard on some interview some time ago. Makes sense to me?? dunno
