if you can choose from several advices which one is the good for you, you never needed one in the first place.

"advice" is uncountable in English, meaning that it is a category and not an individual thing. There is only advice, not an advice or several 'advices'. Some advice, several people's advice, etc.

But I still don't get your logic. You mean that if one can reason, one never needs counsel?

i also didn't quite understand where he was going with that.

i think...and i reason...but sometimes, every now and then...it's nice to hear a fresh perspective. might actually come across something i hadn't thought of...and it might be the answer i was looking for.

I'm sure that he believes we understood what he thinks he said. But maybe doesn't realize that what we heard is not what he meant? dunno

or maybe his first language is not english (maybe it isn't his second either since he's.. what do you say.. swiss?) and therefore he finds difficult to express himself in a language that is not his native one???

i think that what he was trying to say that 'if you know which advice to follow, you knew what you wanted to do in the first place and thus never needed to ask for advice'.. or something like that.

Anyway, if that's what he said, then I don't agree. I think that listening to other people's opinions might further your options.. maybe give you insight to an available option which hasn't occured to you.

However I sincerely believe that when giving advice, one should not solely give ONE piece of advice, or say what "I would do in this situation". If someone came to me for advice I would help that person to brainstorm what his/her options are, and then let that person decide for him/herself which option would work best for him/her as an individual.
