V8's on the Gold Coast (9)

Aaaaaaaawsome! By a complete fluke I managed to finish work early yesterday (friday) so got to head over to the race track which is at Main Beach, about 10-15 mins from our office.

Got a 3 day pass from one of my lovely clients who lives in the high rises there and I see every week. Bless them

Gooooooooooorgeous day. About 26-27C I think, strong cool breeze - perfect. Parked in the nearby shopping centre, walked over the bridge about 15 mins to the track.

Practice day, not huge crowds being Friday but enough for me, it will be very lively this weekend, the boys get on the Jim Beam and the girls in their GC gear get them hot under the collar

Got lots of piccies! Didn't have the right pass to get in the stands but I fluttered my eyelashes, adjusted my top and asked the little cuties manning the steps if I could just take some piccies??

They were sweet, didn't get any grumps

Have to be bloody quick with the shutter, they are moving about 260 kmph!! Wished I had had a video cam.

My attention span is very limited to things with 4wheels going round and round

But I do have a re-newed appreciation of the skill and guts it takes to drive those cars at that speed. Have been driving around the track last few days in and out of there until they blocked it off and those bloody concrete barriers are VERY close, gives me the heeby jeebys

Been trying to 'resize' some of the pics so they can be seen in this box, I have done it, but then when I hit the code button it puts up the original size

Here's one for the Holden fans, sorry Ford drivers - they are not so dedicated! Think it is the same club/group of mates that book out the whole block at the same time every year.

I did enjoy Friday Jem, its only the last couple of years that they have had the V8's, before that it was the Indy cars which don't appeal to me anyway - think the company went broke, after getting about $10m of Qld money (thanks Anna Bligh). The V8's did a brilliant job of stepping into the event with very little notice.

My daughter and her friend went today and my son and a mate will go tomorrow as he is a revhead! (the condition is he sorts out his room! )

Here's another pic - for the boys, some of the 'eye candy' cough, cough, that hang around the track. They were frantically waving at the pit crew - hoping to get an invite to their corporate, team marquis I think? The whole area gets very rowdy Sat/sun, lots of Bourbon and Babes!!
