It really bothers me when people put photos of children on their profile. You really don't know who is looking at the pictures of your children. There were cases on the news recently of men dating single Mums on dating sites to 'groom' the children and police warned people against putting the photos on-line.

I feel quite queasy when I see these photos. How do you feel? Should they be banned/discouraged? Just wondering if it is 'only me' who sees it as a problem?

No, it makes me feel queasy, too.

I get why people would want to put up pics with their family, but its not exactly secure in this medium.

Mind you, is that logical? The fact that we state on our profiles if we have children could make us targets. I'm sure it has with me, even though my daughter is adult.

To be fair, if someone is taking a suspicious amount of interest in a 'child' the mods are pretty damned swift at removing them.

People who put photo's of their kids on here are asking for trouble. It should be banned..I occasionally contact women with pictures of their kids on dating sites and warn them of the dangers..Most listen, some don't.

Thank you for your reply. Saying you havechildren is honest and, I see it as fine. I think stating names/ages/gender etc. in profiles is unnecessary. Yes, photos make me cringe!

Luckily you aeem a very cluey lady Jaq and would work out motives quite quickly. I think not everyone even thinks this may be the case and that is what bothers me.

I never would have thought much of this being I suppose somewhat naive. I would have seen a girl with kids in her profile as being loving towards her children and sending the message that she is part of a loving family.

I would have found that quite attractive as I would have assumed that she would be fairly well grounded.

However, in light of last night's Panorama and the shenanigans at the BBC and Jim'l Fix it.....perhaps I have been raised somewhat superficially with rose tinted glasses. I can't help but feel I've lost a wee bit of my innocence these last few weeks. There are an awful lot of dodgy people about it seems and it's the last ones you'd expect. sad flower

I completely agree with you, it seems a shame that the world had reached a point were you can't put pictures of your family on the net but we have to face the fact you can't, safely.
On the same subject from a different angle, as an older man the profiles I check out would normally be of a granny, no problem there but if she's decided to show all her grandchildren in the picture I'm left with little doubt as to where I would be in pecking order were I to enter into a relationship with her, whilst grand kids are great I would like to get some of the attention.dunno

I get you Pisces, but being honest about having children is also giving out that information that you come as a package deal.

How do see the various types of information (statement you have children/written details/pictures) as having a different impact upon vulnerability?

What about if people deliberately try to portray that using their, or other people's children?

How's your innocence feeling now?

I think anyone who saw the documentary on him many years ago, part of which was shown last night, would be in little doubt about what sort of man he was & I think they may just have the tip of the iceberg at the moment.

I realise some men trawl dating sites with the intent of finding children.....it sickens me, but I believe this to be true as it is a target-rich environment and 'looking at profilepictures' sems innocent but I am sure many are copied (scary stuff!)

I think saying you are a parent and leaving it at that gives you time to get to knoe some-one a little better before going into any details and therefore being actively vigilant in screening.

However, there is still vulnerability. Rule of thumb....never leave some-one alone with your child when dating them. I do realise this is not foolproof, but at least it may make some give up and help sort the wheat from the chaff.

This is a really bad analogy...so my apologies. If you were buying a car or house and there were no photos ordetails and it took ages for you to find out ANYTHING other than one existed, chances are that you are less likely to be interested. If there is a photo and all tthe details....you can see exactly the type of car/house it is and whether it is to your 'taste'. Again, my apologies, but this was the simplest way I felt I could explain what I mean

uh oh

I also sometimes contact men with children and suggest they not put their photos up. I feel so sad that this is the way we have to live. I think more women think of it as an issue than men but men CAN have a woman's profile and look at the photos.

Ive noticed a lot with pics with kids are scammers, followed with a profile that says they are widowed, they give the sob story, hoping woman will be stupid and fall for the story..

But for the ones the are genuine, I dont think they should put their kids photos and details, stating you have kids is enough

This is a subject that I believe really needs to be addressed. Thank you.

I'm interested in dating a woman, not her children. Don't get me wrong, I completely understand that it's a package deal. I just don't feel it's necessary to expose oneself, or their children, to danger, or predatorial types.

I will never put pictures of my two children on any dating site. It feels reckless, and unnecessary.

Adding to my last post, I'd like to relate this:

I had a very attractive woman approach me on here (that should've been my first clue that something was amiss rolling on the floor laughing ). We exchanged several messages. She was really sweet (again, not sure why she picked me confused ), and after a couple weeks, we exchanged personal email addresses and chatted via external chat. Things were going really well, I thought. Then she disclosed to me that she has five kids.

It made me pause for a day, to sort things out in my head. But I decided she was really nice. She stopped showing an interest, so I wished her the best of luck and we went separate ways.

Shouldn't that be something you'd put in your profile? I felt a bit put-off that there was no disclosure from her initially. Felt a bit dodgy and deceptive.

It's gunny this topic should come up, actually. I thought the other day how I'd love to put up a pic or two of myself with my nieces and nephews. But immediately following that was "I can't do that! It's not safe!" It kind of makes me sad that we have to be so cautious as to not share the joy we feel around children with others. We live in alarming times, where pictures of our children or children we love can make us targets.
So while I would love to put up pics of what I call my whole world, I know I never will for fear that I should put those children in danger. I imagine it's tenfold for parents. :(

Weird enough, I see a lot of profiles of guys with children. I just don't think children pictures at all belong on a dating site. teddybear

Maye she was trying to meet a new friend and see if there was a spark first. Parents would differ greatly on when to disclose this information
