Merriweather: Oh Well, I still dont have a mobile phone, and I figure that being contactable at work and have a home phone is plenty...

I guess I am different.. I dont want to be contactable... and to be honest, I have always wondered why people need to be contactable all of the time... that would drive me nuts... To me, I think my quiet time should be ' my time' and I dont want to be bothered by a ringing phone..

I even pull the home phone plug out when I dont want to be contactable.. if I want to sleep on a Sunday arvo... nothing worse than having my kip interrupted...

Definately getting old...
Cell phones are handy if you need em as mine is used for work . Meeting trucks , stock loading . I don't no how many times I have told people not to ring my cell and leave a message as it can be weeks between checks . My home phone is only ever on when I'm on the net so not ever had a ring during my sleep . Cell was real handy when looking after the kids though must admit .

I got a mobile when we were a 1-car family and I was showing dogs. If anything happened, I was contactable. Then the divorce happened and it kept a direct link with my children. And the same after I moved inter-state. And as I do travel a bit, it does make me contactable when I am near a service.

But the home-phone. Nothing worse than having to jump up and answer some telco/gas/electricity/solar provider offering me "oh so sorry, but we do have a great deal for you than your current provider." At the rate they are going, they will be paying me to use their service.

At least I can turn the mobile down to silent.

Hi ah Wash, wave

I am not bagging anyone who needs to be contactable, for all sorts of reasons, not at all...

I just think its weird that these days people walk down the street and talk loudly, everyone can hear the conversation, it looks weird... grin

Check out the accessiblity of the keys when trying to txt or dial
check out the loudness of the ring tones
there are rubber type phone protection and pouches around, for most phones (some pouches dont allow for the ring tones to be heard. but there are also some tradie friendly phones because quite often the big fingers have trouble with the little key pads. check out the availablity of phone app's for the phones that may be suitable for work/pleasure lol iphone has an app available that when bumped against another iphone they are able to swap business card information.

serene56: Have to agree epirb, especially about having a simple mobile phone that just does the jobs you want it to do ie. calls and text msgs Wondering if lookin really needs mobile internet?

I have a Samsung Galaxy tablet which has all the features of an iPhone (I don't need it as a phone though) and although it is brilliant and I love it, typing on the screen is a pain in the butt. Buttons are much easier and quicker as with my current Motorola.

Thinking something straightforward for lookin would do the trick, he probably doesn't need all the bells, whistles and potential problems that come with an android phone?
i agree serene, texting on a touchscreen sucks.....i bought an android phone.....the battery wouldnt even last one day......tryed turning it onto flight mode and all of a sudden the battery lasts 3 or 4 days....long and short.....got a skinny phone with buttons for texting and leave android on flight mode and only use it as a mp3 player/camera, its good as mp3 player as it takes a 32gb micro sd.....texting on a phone with buttons is waaaay betterthumbs up

My last phone was a hand-me-down from the comp nerd son-in-law who must have the latest in everything. It did so much, for him.

But everytime I tried doing a text message on the thing, I would hit a wrong button at times. When I tried to delete the letter, it would come up "Do you want to send this message."

"No, I want to fix it first" and the message would disappear. So stuck to just making and receiving calls. Until it started playing up and it would be so difficult to get the charger to work.

The iPhone is so easy to use, and I can send pictures on it. And it does have room for lots of pics which is why I got it, as a backup for my trip. And I can text so easily on it. Turn it sideways and the letters are big enough for real people not to hit so many others butttons.

And I can charge it anywhere there is any sort of electrical power (does not run on solar power). Plug it into the computer, the cigarette lighter, or the power points.
