Delirium tremens (Latin for "shaking frenzy", also referred to as The DTs, "the horrors", "The Irish Jig" , "The Fear", or "the shakes.") is an acute episode of delirium that is usually caused by withdrawal from alcohol, first described in 1813. Benzodiazepines are the treatment of choice for delirium tremens (DT).

Not Drinking Alcohol in excess in the first place treats them even better!
In the Phillipines, they have a very powerful drink that knocks a guy out in one hour. A U.S. Navy crew was given shore leave, but before they left the ship they were warned to avoid drinking this particular drink (let's call it drink X). Well, a few of the sailors went to a particular bar, and even with warnings from his fellow sailors one of the fellows decided to drink one serving of the forbidden drink. Am hour later, the crew was ready to leave. They went over to their crew member, who was still sitting on a bar stool. They said, "Come on, Joe, it's time to go back to the ship. The poor fellow just stared straight ahead for a minute and then collapsed on the floor. They carried him back to the ship and put him in his bunk, and he was out cold for three days in his bunk. That must have been one heck of a drink!
My last ex got married to her first husband after drinking four Mai Tais.

There was a day that turned into a long night in Manila (Pasay City). But it was the excess of vodka that did me in..not typical for me but I had just been informed of my StepFathers death. I drank to the point that it took three miserable days to recover. I was one sick pup. I don't mind a drink, though being alone I don't tend to drink at all,,but I will never forget how bad that was, I think I consumed a few gallons of Vodka in that 15 hour plight. I know that we drank San Miguel beer that was pretty strong....I wonder what the name of that other one you mentioned is.

DTs can kill. It is very important to give either those benzos OR ANOTHER DRINK to the person going into DTs, and then get that person to a hospital. Such a person is very likely an advanced alcoholic. The only long term cure is permanent sobriety.
