My kids loved fruit and veges. If they were hungry that what I gave them, and I never had any trouble with their health. We may have been lucky but.....

I remember taking a heap of fruit to a family get together one year and was suprised when relatives with young kids said....Narrr we don't eat fruit. wow

Seems to me their kids spend a lot of time sick and visiting the docs.

Maybe a coincidence.....maybe not wink

Happy to say my six year old grandson rarely has packaged snacks, soft drinks etc conversing

His Mum makes him up a snackbox of carrot sticks, sultanas etc and he never asks for lollies or chips, he just doesn't want them.

Hopefully he'll be an exception to the junk-craving younger generation we see everywhere wine

I have a beautiful young daughter that used too eat everything nice, she is now hell bent on loosing weight? It is ripping me apart seeing a young girl so focused on what she sees on the net and in magazines? Her mum keeps buying her optislim ?

What the hell is wrong with this country! When I see a skinny woman I want to feed her? Ok they are nice too look at, but do you really want to take one home?

I am trying too convince the kid that she is better than that!

There's so much pressure on young people to 'conform' to modern standards of 'beauty' doh

Celebrities have a lot to answer for as does the modelling industry.

Often so-called plus-sized models are still only a size 10 mumbling

Besides the fact that most of the images we see in magazines are photo-shopped, nothing natural about them.

Blizz maybe try an exercise...

Ask your daughter to pick out the people she thinks are what she wants to be, and who are beautiful to her.

And ask her what she doesnt like about her body.. and why...

see if you can get her to explain to you why exactly she wants to lose weight and what she hopes to achieve.

Get her to calculate her BMI and see if it is out of whack with what is recommended.

If all that doesnt make her think.. see if you can find an anorexic for her to spend some time with, I spent a few hours with a girl just out of hospital when I was about 18. Certainly made me awre of what I dont want to be

good luck

If apples were always cheap... then I am sure that a lot of mums would pack them for lunches...

but they are not always... perhaps if they were, then mums would use them more..

I love apples... and generally eat one a day... but you cant blame anyone for looking twice at the price of fruit and wondering if its going to taste nice...

Fruits in season... well, sometimes you feel ripped off, because they are tasteless...

sigh

My kids rarely eat fruit but love their veges. They are never sick. My 9yo came to the doctors with me recently as he had a free day off school and he asked if the carpet was new at the doctors, lol, it had been there for years!!

I think the fact that we over sanitise everything has a lot to do with kids health, they cant build up an immunity to germs.

Good for you! Of course she is! I am sure if you asked her why she liked her friends, she would comme up with many reasons....few, if any, physical. Her friends would also like her for her personality and character, not her clothing size. 'Thin' does not necessarily equate with 'healthy'.

There are charts at the doctors (and on-line) which will give her a healthy weight range for her gender and height. That ma help.

I remember when those VLCDs (very low calorie diet) shakes/bars etc. were only allowed on prescription and blood tests were taken each month. I so wish that was still true.

sigh

A mate's wife grew up on Phillip Island Vic and they were strawberry farmers. They had to be so tenderly picked and shipped to the market within 24 hours or else they would over-ripen for the market and go soft or be bruised very easily.

They and the neighbours were always competing at the markets to get their fruit sold to the wholesalers who would then sell them over the next few days in the shops. Over the years of trying this that and everything possible, they did develope a great marketable strawberry. Great colour, firm, stayed fresh right through to point-of-sale.

The down side was that they lost that great taste you get when you pick them fresh from your garden.

And that has happened so much to most fruits. Marketability is what it is all about. Chinese guy I work with loves making "zest" (not sure but some Chinese thing I should look up) from the lemon rind but found that when he makes it, he has to spend so much time getting the wax out of the brew.

I have a lemon tree which nearly always has lemons and I take a big bag into him every few weeks. He loves them. And so I have to grade my lemons so he gets the best ones, and the others get the 2nd grade ones - which they love as they are so juicy.

Serious I am thinking of buying one of those mini gardens that fit into court yards and planting my own vegs. I have to wait for pergola to be put up then can see where I can work from there.

That way at least I will know I'm getting fresh vegs. thumbs up
