Blizzard14u: I have a beautiful young daughter that used too eat everything nice, she is now hell bent on loosing weight? It is ripping me apart seeing a young girl so focused on what she sees on the net and in magazines? Her mum keeps buying her optislim ?

What the hell is wrong with this country! When I see a skinny woman I want to feed her? Ok they are nice too look at, but do you really want to take one home?

I am trying too convince the kid that she is better than that!

Dieting has been around forever, I remember one of my friends doing 'the Grapefruit Diet" think it was 5 or 6 grapefruits a day, she didn't loose any weight as she had to give up - her skin went all scaly and blotchy!! thumbs down

There is a massive amount of pressure and too much attention paid to how young girls look, pressure to be a size Zero.

We are in the middle of the Celebrity Culture where they are held up as the people to emulate?? More emphasis should be on other achievers, sports, public life, people in scientific fields. hug

It is hard as a teenager bombarded with all those images of '[perfection' to be satisfied - or even love what they have got?? blues

Anorexia is a horrible disease that takes over their minds.

And as for her mum buying her Optislim doh What is she thinking? She is just confirming what your daughter already thinks, that she is overweight and would be happier with less weight doh

She's young, she should be enjoying life with her friends instead of counting calories?? wave

curly28: Serious I am thinking of buying one of those mini gardens that fit into court yards and planting my own vegs. I have to wait for pergola to be put up then can see where I can work from there.

That way at least I will know I'm getting fresh vegs.

I do try to grow some opf my own vegies over summer, but this year I am trialing a hydroponic system for my tomatoes, looking good so fargrin

but what I would really like to have a go at is aquaponics, you feed your fish and the fish water (complete with fish poo) feed your plants, your plants filter the water that goes back into your fish. So not only do you get great produce but after a few months get to go out into your system and harvest some very fresh fish!

If you dont want to eat the fish you can use goldfish , or koi (if permitted) instead of food fish

Well after reading this I did a bit of research and now a proud owner of a Aquaponics garden. It is easy and fun to do. the GREAT thing is you don't add any pollutants that keep your veggies alive. And you can actually see the plants growing. So thank Jem for titivating me in this. Will keep you upto date.
