Put your bloody glasses on woman! I heard tom-toms are the best but a guy at work has got a Navman that works fine, I drive his truck when he is rostered off, I have a Navman in my boat that is way better than anything else I have seen, but its your choice? Anything for work is tax deductible, even the internet if you have to upgrade your maps? Come too think now I may be in the market for a GPS for the car/truck that way I can claim my internet bill on tax? I am a truck driver after all?
professor grin cheers

Thanks Blizz! I have tried bi-focals but couldn't get on with them, spaced me out trying to drive in them, everything was all out of focus doh

My distance vision is great - as they say I can see a pimple on a fly's bum half a mile away, but put something under my nose and I can't read it? wave

ive got a navman, but i hav been taken on acouple of long trips that were unnesessary because it couldnt find the location, still found it eventually, buti always stop now and bthink hey this doesnt seem right, and i drive awy a bit ,and it finds a different way.when i mean it couldnt find the location, i meant it took me down a goat track twice which was the shortest route, and ended up being dangerous as it was a disused firebreak. You hav to update them occassionally on your comp to keep up with road changes

I got an older Garmin, its pretty good, but like rippel can send you on the odd goose chase through old roads now forest roads or whatever. Its actually the mapping installed (Whereis) or other, not the device.
Garmin no longer offer updates for my unit (at time of purchase cost me $800)

However i greatly value being able to plan my route on computer then download the file onto the Garmin Device. Do things like draw a line from Ensay to Hervey Bay and then construct my preferred route...download it and ready to roll.
Also have other mapping software installed in the Garmin MapSource Program, e.g Tracks Australia and Shonky Maps as well.

Many many choices on the market these days. I am a bit old fashioned and rely on maps so I can plot my route. But I was given a NavMan a couple of years ago and it relys on WhereIs for locations. WhereIs is run by Telstra and they have to have accuracy so their technicians can find where they are going.

There are many different features for each type out there, all have modes which will give you shortest route or quickest route - different because sometimes staying on a freeway might be longer but much quicker. And then you can also option not to pay tolls. And some don't want you to take unsealed roads.

Hema have just released their latest Hema 6 Navigator and has a great and very accurate display. But for $900, you would only really buy something like this if you also intended to go 4-wheel driving as it has so many excellant off-road maps as well as a "street-view" function.

I would suggest you go to Hardly Normals and talk it through with the techno geeks there, sort out what might be appropriate for what you really need, and then use Google to look for what others think about the 1 or 3 you might consider.

Personally, I would suggest that you give the NavMan a good look. My daughter uses it and says how easy she finds it. Gave mine to a guy at work today so he could find an out of the way place. I did actually have the location already entered because I had to find it myself for some other job. And he said he would have been completely lost without it (he is very non-techno).

Told him where to turn and where to stop. He just hated having a woman telling him where to go all the time.rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing

Thanks for the advice, I am in the car every day, usually know the places I go to, but sometimes get last minute changes and I have a brain freeze and mind goes blank. doh

Our office has just moved 20 kms down the highway and easy to find but from there to next stop might not be so easy as I don't know that area very well.

I use the UBD's as I like to know or at least have a good idea of exactly where I am going.

Not sure if a SatNav will be up to date with all the bloody roadworks, special events stuff going on here. We just had all the disruption from the V8's now the Schoolies are about to descend on Surfers. dancing They have created a big 'pen' and stage for them on the beach.

There is the permanent Light Rail Project that is going from Griffith Univ to Broadbeach, don't even ask, driving me crazy, the whole place looks like Beirut on a bad day. very mad Won't even be in use for a couple more years.

And if that wasn't enough Cavill Mall which is the main pedestrian thoroughfare thru Surfers is having a total revamp. blues Great just intime for the influx of the summer tourists.

Wish you weren't here! laugh
