Looks like water is back in our well but the pump is stuffed its a shallow well about 6 to 7 metres deep with the water table about 3 metres' we used to use it for the paddocks, the pump is stuffed and being quoted about $1100 for a new one the old one was an Onga jj 600'
it was too big anyway more of a deep well one.

Just wondered if any of you know of a cheaper pump that will do the job as we would like to sell this property with the well back in action. dunno

You want a submersible I assume? What diameter is your bore?
How much flow would you like to deliver (L/m)? And how much head? Does it need to pump up a hill, if so how high? Will it be pumping into pipework, if so, what diameter is it and how long? Does it need to run sprinklers? Or just into a cattle trough?

Martia, the old Onga pump may have been "too big" for the 3 metre watertable but it had been put in because someone did realise that watertables do rise and fall.

Bit like buying a car. V8 is great for doing all that effort of towing the caravan, etc but how often do we really need all that power?

You have said that the watertable dropped a lot during the drought and you needed to rely on your watertanks to get water to the stables.

This is where you need to look at what you expect to need before the place eventually sells. And you should also look at what the difference in cost is for the good pump against what you want to pay, and what may be a "good selling point for drought resistance."

At the moment Wash we dont need water at the stables as we have no stock or crops also we are going to get taps on the two large tanks anyway'just trying to work out if we should as you suggested have this well as a back up as an extra selling point, dont think a submersible would be a suitable as its not a bore' but a Jet pump might be a cheaper option seems we would need put a foot valve on to make it work I think, what I am trying to do is not spend a lot of money (spent a heap already getting this place up to scratch ) then if the new owners want to make more use of it they can.

Thought the old pump had had it as it hadent been used for about 5 years and when we first tried it nothing.....but today turned it on and it tried to start then stopped so at least the motor hasn't burned out its trying to go....wonder if it would be worth looking at.dunno

So far we have replaced about 80% of the fences plus some new paddock gates, repainted stables, new Grundfos pump for the tanks to house and new reverse cycle air con ect ect had to do it if we want this place to sell.

If they' the buyers want to see if the well is working have to have a working pump
blues its never ending really Oh' on top of this will have to get the place checked for white ants again as its just about due.:talk about money pit. doh

Sorry Ob's couldn't resist innocent

Its not really a bore its a full sized brick walled well (please correct me if I am wrong) so its about a metre across , it used to be used for a couple of water troughs and stables on even ground, it was pumping into one inch pipe work into tap' so I suppose it would have to travel about 30 to 40 metres just a steady flow would do.
Really all we want it is a pump to show it works ok but if the new owners want to use it for sprinklers and such then they can put a larger pump system in place.

Sounds like a great opportunity to get a windlass and bucket attached rather than a pump. Make a good selling pointlaugh

And then gives the buyer the opportnuity to exploit the well without you outlaying the money.thumbs up

If you're not too fussed about the head (an alternative word for pressure) or flow rate then you could get one of the cheap pumps that Rob suggested. You could get a submersible or a jet pump.
