Allegria46: Ali,

as you are to old for a work and Travel Visa you have to find a sponsor to get a 457 Visa.

For this you need to do a language test wich you have to pass with a mark of at least 5,0. and believe me its not as easy as it sounds.

You have to find someone who is willing to pay for that Visa, and all the paperwork here , I found out nothing was for free, and i had to wait nearly 6 month untill i had my Visa granted.

You also have to be carefull who is sponsering you, you have to trust that person complitly as you from the moment you stay for good here you realy have nobody.

I found out the hard way, i have the most wonderfull Job here in Australia, but it also put me in the position that I had to work 7 Days a week, 10 hours a day, and hardly any time off.

The amount of paperwork I still have to do is a Joke..and I had quite a few Moments the past 13 month when I doubted my decision to give it all up in Germany was the right one.

Just because you earn a lot of money does NOT mean you going to be happy..you will have so many moments when you feel so lonely
Thanks for Such Useful Information Allegria.wine handshake

wash2u: Most of the crop farming properties are family businesses and only hire people when it is likely to get a crop in. Know a guy up near Bourke NSW where he and his 2 brothers work their fathers cotton farm. Considering that just sowing the fields costs about $1 million each year and they are lucky if they make money 1 in 5 years, not likely to put outsiders on during the lean years.

Talking with my uncle about 4 years ago and he was saying that his sheep property was bringing in the same income in as 1975. Chances of putting on someone outside the family are very slim. Especially when there are grandsons desperate for work.

All that hard work and not get much of a return. I think it was wheat around here somewhere, the news said they were going to get good, rate of product, but the rains didn't come at the right time. Farming is so dicey. We used be on a cattle and sheep farm years ago, and some crops, seem not much has changed.

Back in the early 50s, 2 of my uncles took up a sheep station down near Cooma and to tried all the new methods and ideas they had learnt at the agricultural college. It failed, but mainly because of the drought they had and the large debt they had with no real returns. 1 uncle became a cab driver while the other went back home.

Cousin went to the same a college, returned with bright ideas but my uncle wouldn't change from the tried and true methods. Cousin ended up becoming a vet and left the property for good. His sister married a Kiwi shearer (shock and horror in the family). After many years of contracting, they went back to the farm and slowly introduced new ideas about fattening cattle during the good times instead of just wool sheep, ploughing and seeding new grasses in areas, and no more fertiliser as it kills off the bugs in the soil that keep soil healthy.

With the internet now available to nearly everyone, farmers are now using weather predictions to look at what activities they are going to do. Do I sow now or wait another month, or not at all, what crop or even strain will be better for the coming season, when is a better time for lambing.

Robertson NSW, Thorpdale Vic and Tassie were the best potato growing areas when I was growing up. Now most potatoes come from the arid Mallee region of Vic/SA. Driving through there in July and call came over the radio from mate in front "What sort of crops would they have out here?" I radioed back that it is a big potato growing area. Bit of slagging from others "Too bloody dry out here, what would you know" (only seen it on Landline about 2 weeks before). 2 of the guys have are on properties, although not large or good enough for income farming. Then call comes over the radio "Bloody hell, Wash is right." There was a sign up for the potato farm. Interesting discussion that night around the fire about changes in agriculture.

I am considering this one also..
But truthfully, I am tired of studying..
I, myself, is taking an advance course right now.

I am not into jobs in the farm, more to beauty service.
Although friends from Oz told me that too much rivalry there in beauty industry, I think I have something more to offer than the local workers.

Not sure can get sponsor, although if I can find one it would be the best.
But will keep trying! :)

Thanks Rob!! cheers

Ali good luck!! And don't give up! wave
