Foxmaine: there should be an NRA run gun class in every school with daily target practice for all students and teachers

That had been an idea for years when I was a kid. The logistics and expenses in building ranges, either indoor or outdoor for most schools was impossible to overcome. Perhaps, that idea should be re-visited. The NRA had nation-wide drives for memberships and they had indoor ranges at most of their locations. I learned at the one in Wash. DC when I joined the Cub Scouts and continued with it through the Explorer Scouts as well. It was great, but then so were the outdoor ranges that the Scouts had and during all our camping out trips around the country.
An ex Marine taught me the fundamentals of being a sniper at the NRA range in DC when I was around 14 or so...fantastic! It all came
in very handy when I joined my first military during the Biafran War and later in others. The NRA back then had really good teachers and earning your certificates in competitions was hard, but worth it especially with all the different weapons you learned to use.
As far as I'm concerned, the NRA became like/ part of "Big Business" Corporate America in the 70's and lost all credibility; they became all politics and that soured many members and many of their lobbyists. They lost track of their ideals which being on Capital Hill everyday is easy. wine

galrads: I would never want to convince you to believe anything you don't want to open your mind to.

btw.... It is mandatory that all off-duty LEOs (Law Enforcement Officers) around here conceal carry, for their own protection as well as what they are sworn to protect. Being licensed as I am, I am required to assist any LEO and protect any LEO when necessary.

Regardless, why wouldn't any law abiding person be able to protect themselves too? We all make enemies and the world is full of kooks and just as dangerous varmints.

Not to forget, though, I think a lot of people on this side of green on planet earth are totally oblivious just how the USA's position on personal gun ownership is the last chance for peace in this world. If anyone believes the Cold WAr is over... well, they are fooling themselves to say the least. Just look at what comrade obama told the russians when he wasn't aware of being around an open microphone!

lol the thinly veiled insult is beneath you and I am way to long in the tooth to either miss it or be bothered by it lol.

Anyway its obvious we will never agree on this and Santa is almost here so I am off, take care and have a great Christmas/

hahaha would you be insulted if, on CS, I openly tried to convince you to date me? laugh

Well, ok then, but if you ever decide and visit Columbus, Ohio I'd love a chance to introduce you to a few fun things thoroughly enjoyed here…. to name a few:
<> plink at beer cans using a .50 cal at 25 meters
<> hunt groundhogs using squirrel guns up to .40 caliber black-powder only
<> play backup or international trap at 50 meters using a 28 gauge over-unders breaking clay birds.
<> try your luck using hi-power rifles with paper targets set up at 915 meters at the national matches held at camp perry
<> draw smiley faces on paper targets inside local police indoor ranges at 25 meters using your choice caliber pistol with open sites.
and
<> or, of course, bowl using .44 cal revolvers at 25 meters at briar rabbits fun palace or land of legends
laugh

Glatlol: So you think people have the right to kill each other?

He's basically saying that it's his property and he has the right to do what he wants with it so long as it doesn't harm another. The fact that objectively speaking properly enforced gun laws would limit the harm to society from guns is of no consequence. These people want to take the everything from society; its science, its medicine, its laws & civility etc and offer no sacrifice in return. And this suits the post WWII trend towards absolute rights and zero responsibility which was as common to the downfall of ancient Greece & Rome at is our own fledgling and failing civilisation.

It is the attitude of the toddler that fails to understand the need to curtail their own individual desires and wants and believing that the world should be tailored to suit them, and presumably every other person in this world of over 7 billion.

There are reasons beyond its crass, unsophisticated culture, its material excess and its yee-haas that has daubed the US the 'nation of children' amongst Europeans. The obsession with toys(in this case the gun)is yet another one. It should be amazing how America, that once unchallanged leader of the World, has managed to drive itself into the ground so quickly. It really would be amazing if it wasn't for one thing - the American.

This must be goading humor.... or humour as the Canadians say.....giggle

killing things with guns is just an ugly occupation - what did that lovely groundhog do to you?

Now I know why enjoy nature shows in which the predator gets the hunter (human) - I get a secret delight......

if you really enjoy killing things best to head off to a slaughterhouse and ask to stun and kill a cow and butcher it.

Yikes!

Oh my, golly gee wiz.... Does anyone like varmints around and in their homes, farms, airports. They breed disease and destroy properties and harm humans and other life.

Maybe you should ask farmers why they are glad to see exterminators eradicate groundhogs from their properties? They will most likely elaborate on how exterminating Varmints, like groundhogs, prevent losses in expensive farm equipment and human limbs.

Airport operators can elaborate on how accidents on runways are prevented.

Hunting varmints is far more humane than using traps where the critters are left to suffer, usually until they die from starvation.

wow

I expected that to be your delusional story and you are sticking to it. laugh
farming methods have improved greatly that they don't need to resort to a bullet to plant their crops and save their farm implements.

varmints don't need to be trapped or hunted or shot -

I understand how many geese, ducks and other birds have collided with aircraft - they are a lot of accidents on runways.

I am a great believer that when we encroach on the wilderness there are more humane and reasonable ways that we can get along without endangering animals -

I have also been told stories from farmers in canada that have had close calls with stupid hunters that mistake humans, and tractors for deer.....

Think about the 20 Christmas stockings that are hanging on a fence in Newton, CT. The children whose name is on the stocking aren't alive anymore because of a madman with a gun.

I agree, it is wrong. The gun owners might even have a case of slander or libel against the paper. The thing that bothers me the most is now the criminals know which house has a gun in it. My daughter is a police officer and as soon as she takes her uniform off she locks up her gun. There's nobody else in the house but her husband, and even if someone else came in the house, the lockbox is where nobody would think to look for it. Now all these gun owners have something to worry about.

Conrad73: yep,a fully Automatic Weapon is something else!

But like you said,Single Fire from an Automatic Weapon is an anti-Climax!

The worst sub-machinegun I experienced was the Uzi; I hated that thing and soon got rid of it. In Rhodesia we were given Uzis to use; it had an almost uncontrollable pressure when on full auto. I also found it too heavy for our type of operations and asked for a replacement. Out regular weapons depot quartermaster sent to see the weapons master over at the Selous Scouts when I had asked for an Mat49 or an MP40. Their weapons officer turned out to be an ex Spanish Foreign Legion officer and ex French Legionnaire who just laughed when I asked for a replacement. Told me he also hated the Uzis. Half an hour later he asks me did I want the old French Legion MAT49 or the converted Russian 7.62 Tokarev version...that one ,I hadn't heard of, so I asked to try it. He finally came back with all 3; the MP40(he had 9) were taken from mercs that came in from the Congo wars back in the 60's, They were in immaculate condition as were the MAT49's.
After trying them I finally settled on the Tokarev version of the French MAT49 because of the 7.62 conversion which could tear uo any mud brick or cinder block huts etc. on full auto and no upswings at all compared to the UZi's and only half the weight! I was one happy soldier with a new toy to play with! It easily out performed the Israeli Uzi.applause

Maybe Liz can or his American teacher friend form California, can tell us why we don't have school shooting in the Christian and Catholic School of the country?

With over 4m students from 1 to 12 grades and about 10,000 schools of all both Protestant and Catholic faith.....I cannot think of faith related school shooting in the US.

While in the public school system......Columbine, Sandy Cove, and number of incidents have occurred.

Even Liz has to say that there this more than mere good fortune. For 10K schools and 4m Christian students in the last decade not to have a event....were you have had over 3,000 school days at each of those 10,000 schools.

A sign on the door proclaiming a school a "gun-free zone" is totally useless.I can't begin to undestand why that was ever placed in schools in the first place.

I read in the news tonight where President Obama is coming back to Washington and mentioned the Cliff but didn't mention one thing about gun control.

I have a good feeling that he was all talk like always and isn't going to do a thing but run his mouth. If he do anything I'll be totally surprised.
