True, and instead of guns in schools, like we used to have, we now teach children to access

montemonte: "It could happen".. Anything can happen.

If an attack happens from another country, our military will take care of that, not armend citizens.

As for target shooting, my husband and I had a good size boat. We used to throw beer cans into the water and shoot them. I thought it was fun and if I went to a carnival, I always enjoyed targeting shooting there.

Growing up around guns. My father was a hunter. There was always a gun or two in the house. I never gave any thought to being afraid of it or of the many guns my husband had until the day he threw me to the floor and pointed one at my head because I wanted to leave him.

My daughter is a police officer who has a very powerful weapon in her gun belt. I'm not afraid of her but I am afraid of the gun when she takes her gunbelt off and lays it on the table so she can go to the bathroom. The gun can't do anything by itself. It's just scary looking at it and thinking about how powerful it is. When she retires in a few years she is going to turn it in.

For the past few years I have been cognizant of people around me especially when I'm in a crowded store. On any given day my guess is there is someone in a store with a concealed weapon.

I can see through the trees ...

1)The military cannot be everywhere at once and I would defend myself if needed.

2) Wars happen all the time and many people in other countries do die as a result of military or terrorist action.

3) Simply because you had a terrible experience with a gun does not mean that every single person would commit the act that you portray your husband as doing. I have had my ex wife pull a gun on me in the past when angry over my desire to avoid discussing a problem until I had calmed down (she has emotional issues) but I do not seriously believe that the vast majority would do such a thing. There are roughly 350,000,000 people in the US and possibly 2 to 3% should not have weapons in there hands. This is where gun control laws come into place, strict psychological examinations and other preemptive measure are taken, not the removal of all firearms. Once the firearms are removed and people begin using knives or baseball bats, should we get rid of those (including kitchen utensils) and shut down the production of sports equipment? Where will it end? Unless we correct the underlying causes of violence, the problem will never be solved and violence will occur no matter if a gun is used, other objects or simply a person’s bare hands. You fear is understandable but you way of thinking is irrational and emotional. I would disagree with you, you do not see through the forest.

I didn't fear guns until something similar happened to me. There's nothing like being a target that can change ones perception on guns.uh oh

Again, I said not everyone acts this way and you are only punishing the massed for the poor behavior and mental disorders of the few. Why are not crying out for an increase in mental health or for people to report individuals with serious mental issues??????

montemonte: I'll go along with that Cincy, but where do you place the police officer? Does it have to be a police officer or could it be someone trained on how to shoot a gun? Of course I'm being sarcastic but it is without being rude.

I asked earlier, if we do put an armed guard in schools, will it be in ALL schools....Yale, Princeton, Columbia, community colleges, trade schools, private schools, etc. Where does it draw the line on which schools and who draws the line?

Hi monte,Well it should be someone who's highly trained and throughly screened to make sure that they're mentally stable to handle a gun.

As for placement I suppose the schools themselves would have to figure that out.

All schools.

Oregongold: Sad when you have Armed guards in banks, why? Now think of the money inside your bank as kids in a school. Now lets move all our banks into schools. You will have some armed guard there to protect your money and your kids! win win. Would you all go into a bank with NO ARMED GUARDS?(sarcasm if you cant tell) Seriously, can anyone show me guns actually thinking and committing crimes? How come people here in the USA don't speak out against Obama's murderous stunt called, Fast and Furious? I know, for the people that the guns went to were the drug cartels (1000's were killed) in Mexico, and people don't give a damn till it happens here when people are shot to death! How come there hasn't been a mass shooting at a police station recently? Why do we have mass security for heads of state, movie stars, rock stars etc? If they are soooo important, what about your kids, aren't the important? guess not if you don't want to protect them.

I wouldnt go into one with one, sorry I dont get the sarcasm confused

I'm not punishing anyone here. scold I know one thing for certain, I wouldn't feel comfortable living in a country where everyone carries a gun around as commonly as a cell phone.hole

Outside what the NRA suggests it's going to be very interesting to see

what Our Government does.

All Obama and the other political figures have been doing like they always have is run their mouths.

To me all that talk is nothing but cheap talk. What they need to do is put the taxpayers money where their mouths always seem to be.They're about as useful as tit on a wart hog.

I most certainly agree. I simply said removal of all guns is not rational. I am perfectly fine with gun control laws. I would people to be required to be licensed after being checked for emotional stability. I would be perfectly happy with people having to be assessed every year or two to be certain they are still emotionally stable. I am fine with firearms being refused to any individual that does not meet psychological standards and there are tests that these people could not pass in a manipulative manner. I am more than happy to remove all automatic rifles, limit clips sizes and institute structured measures in order to be approved to own a firearm, including the mandatory safe storage. However, removal of all firearms is irrational will only be a band-aid on the face of the problem.

Yeah, when I signed up a few years ago, I thought it was a dating site and discovered it's more like a pissing war. If I'd wanted that, I would join ATS. That's alright cuz it separates the wheat from the chaff.laugh
