Surely the question you should be asking is: Why do you need to protect any school, public place etc ?? What is wrong with your society??

America needs to wake up to the fact they have a problem with too many guns, adding more guns is not a solution, but putting petrol on an already blazing fire!!

Ok so we ban ALL guns from everyone which would of course includ the totally deranged people too.

Ok then while we're at it America should also ban all weapons from the Military and the Police then too.

I mean why should anyone have guns.

I am not suggesting that all guns are banned, it could never be policed for one thing, but, Americans must start to face their responsibilities and make a better job of ensuring only responsible people have responsible weapons, a family living in suburban New York does not need the same kind of guns as a family living in the wilds of Virginia, hunting with guns is a genuine sport, I also enjoy hunting, but shooting with a semi automatic at a deer/rabbit or even pigeon is hardly sport, being able to hit a running deer with a 12/20 bore requires skill, and to kill with such a weapon gives understandable pride in oneself.
Two people in just this small forum have come forward to say they have been threatened by a spouse with a gun, how many others have kept quiet, how many women or men need to be threatened before someone actually pulls the trigger and then the next victim is the child????

What is wrong in China's society, Liz? When you have knife and hammer attacks on Children? China seems to need wake up as well....

OH I know those attacks were all because Communist birth control policies....The rural farmers were angry for only being allowed one child to birth. But the Chinese government is so closed, they will never say it. idea

"Ok so we ban ALL guns from everyone which would of course includ the totally deranged people too."

Headline from The Victoria Daily News, page 6, Dec. 4, 2012:

"US SENATE DODGES ISSUE OF GUN RIGHTS FOR MENTALLY ILL VETS"
AP "A U>S> Senator's push to allow mentally ill war veterans to own guns had briefly threatened to derail a $631 billion US defence bill for reshaping a military that is disengaging from a decade of warfare,
Sen. Tom Coburn, a Republican, sought to amend the bill to stop the Veterans Affair's Department from putting the names of veterans deemed too mentally incompetent to handle their finances into the National Instant Criminal Background Check System, which prohibits them from buying or owning firearms.
Democratic Se. Charles Schumer objected, saying the measure would make it easier for veterans with mental illness to own a gun, endangering themselves and others."
"If you are a veteran or not and you have been judged to be mentally infirm, you should not have a gun."
Currently, the VA appoints fiduciaries to manage the pensions and disability benefits of veterans who are declared incompetent. When that happens, the department automatically enters the veteran's name in the Criminal Background Check System.
A core group of lawmakers led by Sen. Richard Burr has for several years wanted to prohibit the VA from submitting those names to the gun-check registry unless a judge deems the veteran to be a danger. This year's version of the bill has 21 co sponsors. It passed the Senate Veteran's Affairs Committee by voice vote, a tactic used generally reserved for noncontroversial legislation. Coburn's amendment to the Defence bill contained comparable language.
"All I'm saying is, let them at least have their day in court if you are going to take away a fundamental right given under the Constitution," Coburn said.
Buuly for the Republicans that they want mentally deranged combat vets to have access to all sorts of weapons! Ya can't git more Amurikan dan dat!

Is that because people are afraid a gun law will be passed and they won't be able to buy them?

This is just insane !! I am going to be afraid to go anywhere knowing all those assault weapons are out there.

I also think there's going to be copycat killings. Maybe not in schools but in supermarkets, malls, churches, anyplace there is a group of people. Times Square New Years Eve. I know the police check people out but if a killer wants to get in there, he will.

I really can't fathom why this is happening. To live in fear all the time is no way to live...sigh sigh sigh

Even if the assault weapons are banned would that mean that the Sniper Rifle should be next?

If my memory serves me correctly it would qualify as a another destructive device cause it's caliber higher than .50?

In gun grabber terms a sniper rifle is a Centerfire rifle with scope correct or am I wrong?

I imagine one may effectively snipe with a scope on a bow, or even a slingshot. I mounted a scope on a straw in grade school but that didn't work well and sister merrybells took mine away. moping
