"The Utah Shooting Sports Council said it normally gathers a dozen teachers every year for instruction that's required to legally carry a concealed weapon in public places." - From the article cited.
This training is about "Concealed" Weapons training, which is not the same as basic weapons training. I imagine that the issue is not basic training in how to utilize a firearm, but much more about when NOT to use it. This is not the same type of training a constable would be involved in.

Apples to apples monte.
I have both Ohio and Utah conceal carry permits. Believe both are as "Basic" as they can get! Absdefghi.......
montemonte: I think you made a good point my little fox. My daughter has been a police officer for 22 years. Yesterday, while having Christmas dinner, we were discussing the newspaper that printed the names and addresses of gun owners. I thought it was wrong to do that because now the criminals know where they can steal a gun. But my daughter said, now the crimals know where NOT to do a home robbery. So it's a catch-22. Like they say....you win some....you lose some. I will never own a gun. I live in an area where there is a lot of crime. If I feel the need to shoot somebody I'll call 9-1-1. That's where the people are who are trained to handle guns in a professional way and I won't have to worry about being judged if I was within my legal right to shoot the robber.
When your wife, GF, or kid is dead, shot by some robber, will you still think not having a gun and calling 911 was the right way? God forbid such a thing should ever happen, but as we all know from the recent CT school shooting, they damn sure DO happen!

I also take into consideration of the police response time.By the time they were to arrive at someone's home, school etc the victim(s) could already be shot dead.

Ummmmm.....Errrrr.....Fox, you do know that I'm a female right....my "kid" is 48 years old.
Where I live in Ohio we have a problem with corrupt and hot headed police. I would trust a teacher to be armed more than a police or security. I feel it is a fine idea to train and arm teachers. The Dems want to crucify the Reps and NRA for the idea but remember who was the first to bring it up. President Bill Clinton was the first to mention and want to arm the nations teachers.
Hiya Monts I think teachers have a tough enough job with just teaching and dealing with children without having the added responsibility of acting as armed security as well.

Oregongold: Even without the firearms, I think hazardous duty pay should be required, some kids are just a**hole.
I've heard some pretty wild stories of what teachers have had to deal with so I can see where giving them a gun might not be such a good idea if they happen to hit their breaking point one day. We all have breaking points...some reach it later than others but its there even if we were declared sane.
In my days all my Teachers had Weapons-Training! They all were Members of the Swiss Armed Forces! In the fifties there was nothing unusual bout a Teacher bringing his Issue-Firearm to School for Training-Purposes! It only since the Do-Gooders made it PC, that the Youth thinks shooting a Bullet at someone is just no different than pitching a Pea at someone! And we all had access to ammunition at home, but none ever even thought about of bringing any to School when the Firearms were there! It is not the Firearms, but the attitudes instilled in the People today!

Are parents going to feel their children are safe in the hands of teachers who've had six hours training?
Is this what you guys want
