However, if one determine value based on character, kindness, etc...then there is no such thing as "trading up".

I was brought up in a family of head-strong women. All the women in my family (sisters) are picky, however, in my almost now long life, I have observed that just about every woman I have ever known has some pickiness going on. I don't know where it comes from, exactly, and anything I could offer would just be guessing. I'll venture this: Because of the long suffering of women (and that is true) I believe that some, anyway, have a mechanism of asserting themselves just for good measure, like, "Oh, and in case you have other ideas, THIS is how it's going to be"...It comes from not wanting to be pushed around and told what to do.
