I spent Christmas and New Year in Malta. Was wonderful , that's why I am thinking to go again and again. When I was there , I thought for a moment : ''what if I want to live here for a longer time , or maybe forever?''
But at this moment I live in Holland and my child loves to live here very much.
Apart of the fact that I don't know how I am going to deal with this situation can anyone from Malta to tell me how is with:
-jobs
-way of living
-traditions
-costs
-people
Is big difference being turist for 2 weeks and to live for a longer period of the time.

Thank you

Too late! Kitty has left the room.......grin

Is she in Malta? Maybe.

If she is, she must be enjoying herself, having no time to write to her old buddies here!

Hi
Good Day to you.
I am 45 and Maltese and have been brought up in Malta. I love to travel very often, but could not live anywhere else but here.
However, as you rightfully say, living in a country for a 2 weeks as a tourist is not the same as living and working in it in your everyday life.
I will try and explain more to you about Malta by answering your questions:
Before I answer your questions perhaps I can give you some background information....
Malta was a British colony for 200 years until Independence in 1964. The main benefit of this colony was that the British left their legacy through their language (Malta has two official languages - Maltese and English), civil service, way of government, as well as culturally and through architecture.
Jobs in Malta are easily available for EU member nationals since the Maltese economy, and hence job market is quite varied. The knowledge of English would be a prerequisite for working in Malta. Knowledge of Maltese would only be required if the company on works with would be trading in Malta. As I said before, Malta's economy is quite varied and there are many foreign companies operating in Malta, in the manufacturing, tourism, financial services, internet gaming and IT markets. So if would not be a problem to work here. Knowledge of other languages besides English would be a big benefit.
Way of life in Malta is great due to the small size and easiness to socialise. Malta is very safe and people are out often in the evening, walking, having dinner, etc.
The weather in Malta is very good and the 'cold' period is only between ed of December up to the end of February, where temperatures can drop below 10 degrees, although this year this has not happened yet. In March the weather gets warm and in May it will be over 20 degrees and between June and September it will be over 30 degrees (reaching 35-37 in July or August).
Traditions here are very traditional with strong family values. The Maltese are renowned for their friendliness, especially towards foreigners, and you would find it easy to integrate.
The costs here are not cheap, but also not expensive like most European cities. Healthcare in Malta is free and that is a very good thing. Also education is free here.
Well, I hope I have been helpful. Please let me know if you need more information, I will be glad to help.
May I ask how old your child is? There are very good schools here.

Hello again,

I didn't go anywhere yet , stil in Holland. I am type of person who want to do things safe .
I would not leave Holland untill I am sure about a contract in Malta or anywhere else.
My child is 13 years old and in september she will go to highschool. Is new step for her. That is why I am confused about what I want to do. She came in Holland two years ago , changing schools and style of life. Learning dutch , not a easy language compared with romanian. In one side I have to care about her and her stability and in another side about me and my life.
Holland is nice country but ...is not my piece of cake (even I am cake decorator ..lol). I came here for other reasons , but I knew from the beggin my feelings about living here. But I tried my best , learning dutch , trying to find job , making my life here.

S, thank you very much for your advices and beautiful description of Malta history. Is nice to read great things , to be encouraged.
My dear friends , I gotta go. One nice cake is waiting to be decorated.Wish you all wonderful day with lots of nice thoughts.

Hey there,

Malta is a very nice place. Somewhere I read that it has been voted as having the best climate on earth and I must say I agree. Jobs are easy to find, if one really makes an effort, especially if you have qualifications. Most people are also very open minded and most speak English. I have known people who have been living here without ever learning a word of maltese though, living in some areas like Sliema and Bugibba, are better for that. Life doesn't cost too much - water, electricity and gas have gone up in the last couple of years but not too much I think. Of course, salaries are lower than UK for instance. People are generally friendly. I must say that life here is very pleasant. Summers are especially wonderful with beaches and summer life. I love going abroad but I would not like to live anywhere else.
Hope this helps :)

If all Maltese women look like you, I'm coming over too.

;)

I'm sure there's always work for a handy man.

Even an old fart like me.

See you soon.

I wouldn't go to Malta for the beauty of girls from Malta but for country itself.
Doubting between Malta or United Kingdom ...:)
