Bluefish22: I don't mean fantasy land.
Im just saying its a different world to mine. I don't need a gun to feel safe, and you and your neighbours do.
Over here we have guns for hunting, and they are locked in a gun cabinet, with ammo seperate, so that they are safe from children.
We need to pay and sit for a gun license, to be a responsible gun owner, and we teach our kids to be responsible hunters and gun owners.
I don't know anyone that has a gun for self protection, it is only for food and fun.
The undercurrent of kill em before they kill you, is something we don't have and hopefully never will.
Also we don't have big wild critters that will kill and maim us and eat our children
The Americans know this... they dont need it shoved down their faces... a debate... any debate consists of suggestions for improvment.. not showing off... and flippant remarks like the previous one... show a lack of compassion... If you have naught to contribute ... I suggest you read and learn...
OkieChic: Has a lot of sad history... talk about innocent people getting slaughtered, violently.....But I'm proud to be Irish, and yes one day I will visit Ireland
And you would be as welcome as the soon coming in the windows in the morning
I might not always agree with people in here but I do post from the heart.

Kiwi?? what are you a fruit now? Umm smarty pants, check your spelling, it's "colonized" go play with your kiwi and change your diaper....I'm totally done with silliness
RayfromUSA: Perhaps, but correlation doesn't necessarily mean cause and effect. And even when it does, it has to be determined which is cause and which is effect.
Is that that having a gun increases the likelihood of homicide, or is it that that people who live in high crime areas tend to buy more guns?
As for suicide, Japan has a very high rate of suicide and yet the people there don't have guns. They use poison or other means. Someone who is intent on suicide will find a way. Worldwide, suicide correlates more to financial or social stress than it does to gun ownership.
Ray, In post 94 you quoted me. The quote is not my words. They are from the article that I copied from the link.

Heads up Australia From: Ed Chenel, A police officer in Australia
Hi Yanks, I thought you all would like to see the real figures from Down Under.
It has now been 12 months since gun owners in Australia were forced by a new law to surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed by our own government, a program costing Australia taxpayers more than $500 million dollars.
The first year results are now in: Australia-wide, homicides are up 6.2 percent, Australia-wide, assaults are up 9.6 percent; Australia-wide, armed robberies are up 44 percent (yes, 44 percent)!
In the state of Victoria..... lone, homicides with firearms are now up 300 percent.(Note that while the law-abiding citizens turned them in, the criminals did not and criminals still possess their guns!) While figures over the previous 25 years showed a steady decrease in armed robbery with firearms, this has changed drastically upward in the past 12 months, since the criminals now are guaranteed that their prey is unarmed. There has also been a dramatic increase in break-ins andassaults of the elderly, while the resident is at home.
Australian politicians are at a loss to explain how public safety has decreased, after such monumental effort and expense was expended in 'successfully ridding Australian society of guns....' You won't see this on the American evening news or hear your governor or members of the State Assembly disseminating this information.
The Australian experience speaks for itself. Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws affect only the law-abiding citizens.
Take note Americans, before it's too late! Will you be one of the sheep to turn yours in? WHY? You will need it.
Bluefish22: Yeah? What a coward, hitting from behind?
I always thought liberals like it from behind.. This way they have no way of knowing what is gonna happen next. ;) Sorry I couldn't resist.. Serious note though, if everyone agreed with you then we all would be wrong. ;) HAHAHAAHAHA!
