Helen Keller was not completely paralyzed, I think. She would have been able to read by touching... Peter Blundy cannot control his body.
It is a hard question. I would want to let my loved one go free to live a full life, but at the same time I would have to battle with deep pain, this enormous hunger for love in my own heart, and utter loneliness....
revealer24: Jem, I think you misunderstood it. He meant that if he lost his eyesight on the top of all his disabilities (cannot move, cannot speak), he would not be able to do anything and would not want to live.
I understand that very well. I would feel the same. And yes, my loved ones would understand as I have actually had that discussion with them.

Helen Keller was only deaf, dumb and blind. And she was very intelligent. She learnt how to read and write.
I have grown up with an aunt who contracted polio in the 50s. She was a child prodigy on the piano and studying music at age 12 at Uni. She was one of the lucky ones who only lost the use of her legs. But no more piano.
Many ended up in the Iron Lung just to be able to breathe. Makes you appreciate the drugs we now have to combat these type of diseases.
What would I do if I was completely paralysed? Like everyone else, I would hope for release. Just hope I never get to that point

yep, he might not be what he wanted or imagined, it does not make him any less, only if he wants it too.
it is the same for all of us.
There are more things that go wrong with the human body than not being able to walk, or see or hear. People deal with things like this everyday, and many against all odds dust themselves off and decide that what ever the problem is that it will not be the victor.
