Merriweather: Hi Nature.... good to know you are well, and the damage, is minimal compared to some.. sorry that you had any at all... but best that can be in the situation..

Looking forward to interaction with you when you sort it out...

Floods have ended. TV is back to normal and footy problems are emerging. Natural disasters are somewhere in the news but they are not happening now so they are not interested.

After having 192 landslips 2 years back and govt giving us $10m of the $16m cost, we have not quite got around to opening every road. We have an annual budget of $10m to repair all buildings, drains, footpaths, roads, bridges, culverts and potholes. Not to mention the $3m I estimate for immediate works just to relieve some of the homes in flood prone areas from getting water in their homes.

1 landslip still not fixed and expected to cost $1/2 at least means the 15 residents have to do a 25km detour. After the rains 2 years ago and the bushfire past month, another road that carrys 12 vehicles a day needs $1/2m just to make it driveable for most 4wd.

But now footy is about to start, we have more important things to think about now.doh doh

The pollies leave the area quicker than the TV crews!
Most off the areas flooded are natural wet lands? Why are there any homes on them anyway? Without the proper drainage In place?
Over here as you may off heard we live on a mountain off sand, but most off it was wetlands before it was built on, a new area just five minute walk away, the developers dug a massive big hole in the ground and put in proper drainage for the land, this process takes months to do, but it insures that we never get the same as they do in QLD, its just common sense!

My Dads first job was running three massive generators that ran a series off pumps to get the water out off what is now called Kewdale /Welshpool, two off the largest manufacturing industrial areas in WA.

If you ever get to WA, you will notice every few blocks there are large catchments for rain water, our drainage system is world renowned in worlds best practise,

Even my little house on my little block off 330mtrs had to have two 500ltr stormwater tanks fitted and connected to the city’s stormwater drains, before the house could be handed over,
professor cheers
