AgentAjax: Tell whats not a drug these days?

True, but I mean willing taking a substance to get an effect, not unwittingly taking them.

jem1964: same drug, just different forms
from wiki
Prednisone is a glucocorticoid prodrug that is converted by in the liver into the active form, prednisolone.

And yes, both are used to treat many different things, some very serious illnesses.

I still say that any athlete that wants to put drugs like this into their body really needs to think long and hard about it. Yep it will help with their short term goal but if taken incorrectly can and does causes serious problems even if only taken for a short time.

so how creates the pressure to succeed at all costs? Is it the athlete looking for glory? Or is the supporters always wanting a little bit more??

I know for instance, the game of Aussie Rules has changed dramatically since I was a kid. Even at local level now people are paid to play. Whereas once they played to compete, because they enjoyed it.

does it all come back to "Money is the root of all Evil"?

Natural amounts of hormones increase when the muscle mass increases, in some cases it has been as much as 16 times the normal level I believe. Im going with the idea that it has its dangers but not necessarily as high as it has been promoted.

Lookin4missright: Yep

just hope this perfomance drug is never banned

I have people asking for that drug daily, even young guys who should not have that problem. We dont sell it. Makes me wonder what they are doing to their own natural ability in the long run and will it be so much fun when they really cant get it up because their body has relied on it?

I look at it this way. If I were 80kg 5ft 5” fronting a person 6ft 100kg running straight at me do I not deserve some assistance? I mean surely I have the same right as the next person who is naturally taller and carries more weight to play in the same game?

at 5'5" and 80kgs I would think you would be a lot more agile than someone 6ft and 100kgs and that you would dodge out of the way.

playing sport is supposed to be about ability, not about rights.

If you dont have the ability you need to find another sport that suits your ability, or accept that you play for fun and enjoyment and not for glory and achievement.

there are so many sports availbale to us all that there is a strong chance that there is one that will suit our personal abilities.

Sport shouldnt be about winning at all costs, it should be about the competing

So that alters my self of being.

I know what you are saying tho, I just don’t agree with the view.

If you need drugs to compete in professional sports then you are not a professional sports person!

A guy at work 50ish looks like an old man, I thought he was due to retire when I first met him, he used too do weight lifting, more steroids and muscle growing drugs!

Sorry there is no place for drugs on the sporting field! On the bench while doing physio recovering from injury maybe,

I don’t agree with the magic spray they use in cricket, I don’t agree with the injections in AFL, and I definitely don’t believe a player should be allowed back on the field off play after a concussion !

This is just sport after all, its not called cheating for a reason,

Life is all about risks and sacrifices. Sometimes they pay off, sometimes they don’t and sometimes you have to create them. To get to the top is not an easy ride, to stay on the top for a year or two is even harder. If you don’t give 1000% where you want to be then the only person you cheated is yourself. JMO

Sadly I think it comes down to one thing - Money? sigh

Don't forget that the top players/sports people earn a lot of money, a helluva lot more than the average wage, so that alone is an incentive to 'be the best whatever it takes' (ironically - whatever it takes is Essendon's slogan this year?).

Sport is now a business, not something most people do for the love of it. When we have kids being signed up to top footy clubs, swimmers being selected and moved to the ACT to be trained away from family and friends, something is wrong.
