My daughter and I are always passing books between us. And we do read them first (or second). She comes to my place and always asks "What have you got to read." Spots something "I haven't read that, I am taking it." frustrated frustrated Okay, she will bring it back for me.

But I do love to say how much I ejoyed it before passing it on. Son-in-law is fussy about what he reads (only manages 2 pages before he falls asleep)...."I only like Joe Blow and will never read anything else." frustrated frustrated

Seriously, do people ever pick up books these days and read or just wait for the movie to come out?

Funnily enough, I bought Red Dog... skinny little paperback.. and I have been reading it just to see what it was that brought that beaut movie to life...

Well, I dont normally go in for reading this stuff, but I must say... the fella with the french name.. the author... actually has a great writing style, and yes, I am passing this book onto Solsticemoon in Spain as soon as I have finished it... which should be tomorrow... grin

I have recently finished "Captain Sorreli's Mandelin" by a French author who has won so many British awards for his writings. Story is about an Italian Officer on a Greek island. Totally confusing with the multi-cultural and non-Aussie (go figure this one out) bit but ..........such a good read.

I struggle to pick up a book and read in my hands as I can no longer hoold the book.

But...

I have invested in a small tablet to use as an ereader.

Last night just finished the 3rd book in the Harry Potter series and am about to start the next one.

yep, revisiting my imagination and giving it a flex to keep it working.

Before the 3 Potter books I had read a couple on the history of Native American Indians, written by archeologists but fiction. They have a strong base on fact and delve into the anthropology and beliefs and the day to day living. Good books, good story and you learn at the same time. I'm reading books by the Author "Marueen Lee" all her novels are of the UK dating back to the early 20's 30's 40's up to the 80's mostly around Liverpool it has nothing to do with being a pom cause I am a real dinky di Aussie.

But she is a great Author and in her stories she includes the lives of at least 6 to 10 people and what is happening to them as they grow up. Through the great depression , the 60's rock bands the stones and the beetles that era as well. I have read about 8 of her books in the last few months now I am running out of reading her novels so will have to go back to libary and look for new reading material. nerd I enjoy reading it is peaceful time out and takes me into another world for a short time it's good for the mind. JMO!

Just going through my stack of the last 43 books I have read (they are sitting on a table waiting for me to pull my finger out and go to the op shop). No double up in authors.wow I tend to pick up just about anything that grabs my attention, either on the front or back cover. And if I find an author I really enjoy, I will aim to keep chasing that one for a while.

And recently got an Alan Dean Foster (1992 edition) from my son. Haven't picked one of his up since the early 80s.

I do tend to keep some authors and have a few series (waiting on getting the missing ones before I read more). I keep my collections of Len Beadell and Tolkien books as I pick them up again every few years to read them again.

I have a decent collection of Australian outback books, although these tend to go walkabout when someone finds out I have a few of the hard to get ones. I was missing 1 for about 3 years when a mate emailed me in October and said he had found it and would try to get it back through the usual network of friends. And last month, he emailed me again and said he had another one of mine.

Big reader here wave

Love to have a read at bedtime, helps me relax and nod off sleep

Mostly non-fiction, biogs etc. and although I use ebooks regularly, I still enjoy a good old fashioned lol hardcover.

Just finished a book about the rise and fall of the Beachboys, interesting, and am halfway through 'Razor', loving the historical references to inner city Sydney in that

Take your books to second hand book shop and you will get credit for your old books as long as they are in good condition , have a look at their library they usually stock a good varity of books.

With your credit from your old books you should be able to purchase books at a small fee. thumbs up

I don't read as much as I used to as my eyesight's not what it used to be. I can still read but my eyes do get tired easily.
I've always tended to go for non-fiction generally.

Went down to visit Daggs with a boot-load last year on Fathers Day with my daughter. Wonthaggi is closed on a Sundayfrustrated frustrated

Was coming back from Sydney visits over Xmas with the box still in the boot. Stopped for fuel and a bite to eat and they had a book-stall going. wow wow Nothing hit me. The stall-holder said she does this for her and her husband (farmers) to have a holiday. Gave her the whole box in the bootthumbs up thumbs up "You guys deserve a holiday, hope this helps." She said to make any choice (it was a big box) but nothing grabbed me.

She pulled out "Captain Morrelli's Mandolin" for me and said "Enjoy this." thumbs up thumbs up I did.

I love reading books and dread the day when I cannot pick up one and read it. I suffer from attention deficit and would need a lot of training to be able to listen to a book being read by someone else without asking them to re-read or explain something.

I am a book worm from way back and go from something a bit heavier in the non-fiction to something lighter, easy reader.

I have a revolving collection of paperbacks as I have now started to supply some of the people I see in my job who either can't get to a library, or just can't carry heavy books home.

I pick some up from other people who are happy to donate them, my sister and I swap them back and forward amongst her friends as well.

Here on the GC we have many libraries, that are well stocked and well used, there are also at least a couple of "Friends of the Library" shops that get the redundant books and sell them dead cheap. The last time I went, I only wanted a couple of books and the lady insisted I take a bag and fill it up for $10!! She even shoved a couple more in just for good measure and one under each arm.

At the moment I am reading a Cathy Kelly, Irish writer, it's an easy read and I will be glad to finish it so I can get into something I need to use my brain a bit more.

Memoirs of a Geisha is a good read, made into a movie, but I already had the picture of the book in my head, good not as good as the book.

You should look into audio books obs, I have a friend who listens to them in her car as she travels over a hour to work each day. She loves them and gets some great titles.

I have just finished reading Bryce Coutenay's Persimmon Tree. It was very good but the ending disapointed me a bit.

.

I think I have read all of his books. Usually the ending has disappointed because I have wanted more. Like watching some of those fluffy movies where the couple finally get together and end of movie. What happens afterwards?

His last book was written with his normal ending. But then he realised his end was near. So he added the precis for what would have been the next book (instead of his normal 1st chapter to get you in) and I did find this very satisfying.

Good idea, Lilee. I only travel 1/2 hour, but can't listen to the radio as it's all ads these days.
