Obscuritan: Good idea, Lilee. I only travel 1/2 hour, but can't listen to the radio as it's all ads these days.

I have spent many years doing long distance travelling, as well as short trips. I have found the talk-back radio so distracting when driving but so many have gotten to work and have said "Did you here so-and-so on the radio today talking about the ....?"

I drive and I concentrate on the road and what is around me. There are so many idiots on the road that I need to concentrate on them rather than the airwaves. Too many crashes occur because of some distraction.

And I do have a form of attention deficit syndrome. I don't need distractions when my own safety is concerned, let alone my loved ones.

I can easily get lost in a book and lose all sense of time. All so often I have looked at the clock at 4am and need to get a couple of hours sleep before driving the hour (75kms) to work.

curly28: I'm reading books by the Author "Marueen Lee" all her novels are of the UK dating back to the early 20's 30's 40's up to the 80's mostly around Liverpool it has nothing to do with being a pom cause I am a real dinky di Aussie.

But she is a great Author and in her stories she includes the lives of at least 6 to 10 people and what is happening to them as they grow up. Through the great depression , the 60's rock bands the stones and the beetles that era as well. I have read about 8 of her books in the last few months now I am running out of reading her novels so will have to go back to libary and look for new reading material. I enjoy reading it is peaceful time out and takes me into another world for a short time it's good for the mind. JMO!

I love reading generational series books based on an historical background. Could you please tell me the name of the first book of the series? It sounds like a set I might like...like Maeve Binchy!

I love to read! I think that children who grow up in a house where books are treasured tend to take that into adulthood. I once saw some-one throw a book in a bin and was horrified!

I often order from The Book Depository in the U.K. They tend to have what I am looking for and it is FREE POSTAGE worldwide and comes to my door. I get ever so excited when a book arrives! There is nothing quite like the feel and smell of a new book and the thrill of what lies inside the pages.

I have, at present, a stack of 30 books awaiting my attention and am so looking forward to diving in! They are also shared amoungst my family and friends.

I have dug in my heels regarding e-books, however, have decided that if ever I can no longer read myself I will get the ones on CD read by Stephen Fry. I actually bought some Winnie the Pooh books with himself and DAme Judy Dench reading the parts. I WAS going to give them to my niece.....but I can't bear to part with them!

Happy Reading everyone! I am off to bed with a good book crazy
