"Rarely are we met with a challenge…..to the values and the purposes and the meaning of our beloved Nation. The issue of equal rights for American Negroes is such as an issue…..the command of the Constitution is plain. It is wrong - deadly wrong - to deny any of your fellow Americans the right to vote in this country."
I believe the title of this thread is a bit misleading.
as far as I'm concerned about voting rights, any individual who doesn't own property shouldn't be allowed to vote. That's the way it was and should be again, here.
this is just another lie by the democrats that is being put out my the liberal media. look what happened during the election. it was the democrats ultra organizations that was trying to intimidate voters to vote for obama. for example the new black panther party was at some voting polls threatening voters to vote for that idoit in the white house. the left always use the race card to get their way and to demonize the right
Supreme Court justice Antonin Scalia thinks that black people should not be allowed to vote
Now that's something I really worry about. Lost a lot of sleep last night over just that. Gosh. But then, you know, this is a free country so he can believe whatever he wants just like you.
I don't think he was saying black people shouldn't be allowed to vote - that's a leap of logic to claim that.
I think what he's saying is that the Right to Vote is constrained by social acceptability which makes a mockery of the right to vote if its true.
The problem is, he makes a leap of logic himself in assuming that personal knowledge and cognitions do not change with social pressure and implies that people would wish to vote against black people's right to vote - this may, or may not be true.
This is so full of paradoxical ideas, it very interesting. The one which stands out for me is the implication that the Right to Vote is being sacrificed for popularity, which in turn will gain votes and power.

If you really believe that then you and I are going to go at it.
I don't own property. In fact, I never owned property. But I've paid taxes for many years. I don't know if I paid them in my first job when I was 14 years old but you can bet I paid them when I was 18 years old and I've been working steady up to 2010.
Now give me a good reason why I shouldn't be allowed to vote.

Just wait! Today the blacks, tomorrow the bald people.
