Merriweather: Hi Jem..

I am with you on this one... I have watched others that have a mission to destroy a person... ( this is usually work stuff) ones that wear labels and have authority positions... and weild it... and its terrible to watch, because it does not take long to see that same authority driven person.... cop a huge personal blow ..and it seems to happen all the time... I dunno if that is karma or what... but it never pays to go on a mission of getbacks...

My hassles seem to be with work people who aren't bosses but think they are . I just let them think they are bullying me .
Then like last night at dusk have a quick fish and wind down beer
Works a treat when schools of under size Salmon trout are trying to eat bugs of the surface .Then I realise what living is thumbs up
I work to live not live to work grin

LiLee: I just watched an interview on Weekend Sunrise with author Hugh MacKay about what makes a life worth living. Basically his bottom line was treat others the way you would like to be treated. He says modern western civilization has become addicted to achieving personal happiness which is not achievable all the time. Humans will experience many other emotions in their lives. When asked about the difficulty in always treating others well especially when you feel wronged or treated unfairly or bad things happen to you, he replied that this is the challenge we face in making our life worth living and if we can rise above the basic instinct to retaliate when wronged and continue to act for the benefits of others, we have succeeded. I know I would struggle to treat those who treat me unfairly in a giving or forgiving way. Food for thought

Could you ?

One of the basic tenements of Jesus was "Treat others as you would have them treat you."

We do have within ourselves "the basic instinct to retaliate when wronged." Some are very good at sitting back and thinking before they respond/retaliate while some go straight into 'defensive' mode when they perceive a wrong and launch an attack. The 'wrong' may not be intentional, just perceived as a wrong by others.

You hit the nail on the head there wash, often ppl are just protecting themselves and unintentionally hurting others. Putting yourself in anothers shoes could go a long way to preventing yourself feeling hard done by.

And then you could also go that some people only hear one side of a story and do not want to hear anymore because it does seem that some injustice has been done without knowing the whole story.

My favourite quote by someone I can't remember who actually said it (and probably not written anywhere) is:

"There are 3 sides to every story. Yours, mine and the whole truth."

serene56: When we go through difficult times in life, I guess it's only natural to question why things happen and try to find some meaning in them.

My recent thoughts on this lead me further down a philosophical road where I found myself considering those who live in what could be seen as almost unbearable circumstances - abject poverty, constant and severe pain with no relief, those who have lost loved ones under terrible circumstances and so on.

This then lead me to a book called 'Man's Search for Meaning' written by Victor Frankl, an Austrian psychiatrist who survived the Holocaust.

Given his occupation and his experiences in concentration camps, he further explored the 'meaning of life' concept which led him to Nietzsche's quote

“He who has a why to live can bear almost any how.”

It's what each person's life expects of him that gives his life meaning..

'Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual.'

Thoughts?
................hi serene........i loved this book...........i think sometimes people take for granted the things that they do have and only focus on the things they think they are missing out on............if we concentrate on the positive things in our lives we will be giving energy to these good things and thus will attract more good things into our lives.............i think we need to have a bad day every now and then to be able to know and appreciate what a good day is..............another book i got a lot out of was 'Adversity Quotient' turning obstacles into opportunities by Paul G Stoltz PhD

curly28: Ive read a few books on the 2nd world war and the concentration camps what happened to our men and the gassing of millions of people was so horrendous we can only imagine because we haven't experienced anything like that in our time on this earth. I hope we never do.

We will remember them R.I.P
My father once told me he would have traded the relative comfort of a konzentration camp rather than the counter march that he was on in the last weeks off the war . Men were falling out of the march and plain old shot as they were given no grub or very little . He got a frostbit ear on the march too heheh bloody big ears the old man .

my old man mostly talked in general terms about what went on .Every now and then he would slip up. slip up might be the wrong term , you know what I mean though .A trigger would happen , funny one day ,DC3 was spreading fertiliser next door . Came over a ridge low and fast ,we were on horseback and I watched the way he moved as I was behind and back abit .Bit later he patted his horse and said to it "its one of ours" , horse had not reacted to the DC3 , he did .

hi eprib and peps
helicopters i could pick one coming miles away after nam, not that i was involved in in fighting so much and only flew in one once, but every day the sky was full of them, the aussie mail run landed outside hq window and troops in waves of helicopters flew overhead daily, something I didn't forget
most soldiers I've met that were right in the thick of things don't say much

hello you guys , lot better working with choppers than fighting with them . In an instant I can tell a hughs 500 , from jet ranger and robinson 44 , robby 22 just like 44 just ever so slow .
Watched a Robby 22 poaching not far from where Hamish Armstrong the 11 shot my goats a 44 shot a hind not far from where the top goat was shot .They had permission to shoot stags . Worse than VN at times as the area is 700 acres , more contacts per acre than South VN maybe . Three this year so far north west , don't know about the south east been in there though .
sorry for the rant .
