How much you drink doesn't make you an alcoholic. Its the reason why you drink. A person who abuses drink gets pissed all the time for the "laugh". An alcoholic drinks because they need it to feel "normal" and get through day to day life.

An alcoholic is someone for whom alcohol is part of their life. Without it, something is missing. How much, how often, doesn't really matter. It's where it is in your life that matters. Could you (not your personally) really give it up anytime? Then do it. My guess is, if you have ever said, "I can give it up anytime" you know you can't.

The classic distinction of an alcho is at the end of the night they go top shelf to which also without fail an argument follows usually with their family. Most alchos are always well dressed hence the inflated ego another classic sympton is the false accusation of the alcho onto others this is stated by the action of Henry fords son while he ran the company , a classic alcho was Joseph Stalin with a massive ego and always the false acusations to which he made his victims sign forced confessions, another syptom of an alcho is the huge amounts of alchol they can consume and without much affect to them and function perfectly the next day though then when in the later stages of life the effects catch up with them rapidly and they age very quick and look terrible, most serial killers are alchos and act out their fantasy while under the influence,There a re different forms theres a good book on it called the hidden history of alchoholism which caused caused quite a stir and goes in the face of a lot of psychologists

your definition is prob the closest id get to

A fair amount of people teeter on the line between this area and what is expected of them within their society.

a lot actually need alcohol..or the knowledge they can have it when they need it..at times of stress, loss or celebration.

a great step is actually knowing what your relationship with alcohol is and an honest evaluation..and accepting the alcohol doesnt control it....and it is the one relationship you must be the one in control of..if needed...

theres a lot of irish people in very grey areas.

What's this witchcraft before me? Have I slipped into an alternate universe? You're actually agreeing with me? Now I will believe that there are unicorns...

There are a lot of people who cant get through the day or week without some alcohol. They to me have a problem.
Someone who has a beer after there dinner every evening may just be in the habit of it. If they cant get through the evening or get uptight if they cant have one, then they too have a problem.
I for one couldnt be with someone who needed to drink to relax.

Many people are alcohol abusers. A typical saturday night out in any town in the country and you will witness many many people who have abused alcohol.
Drinking in a social setting can make for a pleasant evening. When someone drinks themselves into oblivion and drinks til the bottle of spirits is empty or drinks til they feel theyve consumed a braggable amount, then they really need to look at themselves and why they do it.
