I have had 4 out of 6 contacts that want money from me. On top of that...I have never met them in the first place. It is sad and unappreciative to open myself up and get slapped in the face by scammers.

There are tons of scammers on this site.
Since you have been contacted by scammers and have interacted with them, can't you tell be now who a scammer is without even beginning any conversations?

To be honest from the sounds of it the answer is, because you havent the commonsense to spot them. Sorry but facts are facts, scammers are easily spotted, if you havent managed to spot them by the time they ask for money then I would suggest that a dating site is not for you.

The OP may not be as well versed or educated to dating sites and scammers as some of the long-standing members here who are. It may take a few scam hits for some to begin seeing their tactics and be able to spot them early on. I would prefer to encourage people to better prepare themselves for scam potentials rather than suggest they leave--Unknowing is a vulnerability that attracts the scammer.

I happen to be a long time member now, wasnt always of course but always had commonsense.

May I suggest you read the scam warning section on the site. Just take your time and give no personal information in the first few emails.

I just want to thank you all for your encouragement. I still have not given up on my search for true love and happiness.
Oh...by the way...NO, I have not sent anybody any money. The only thing I have given is some of my life story to some. I am learning to hold back on what I say to people now.

it's a shame really...
lots of folks on here who are really looking for that 'special one'...and while i think honesty is the way to go..the truth is that there are so many scammers on this site, one does have to be careful. even skyping or meeting someone, isn't gonna be a guarantee that you're not talking to a scammer.
getting to know folks in the forums is safer..but there's even scammers in the forums.

I even had myself scam me on this site!! How can you develope trust in someone here on CS or the real world? Call me paranoid but it seems a majority of people are out for something you are not looking for. Such a shame.
