Obscuritan: The theory is that if you ingest the oil or eat the leaves, you don't get high. You only get high when there is heat involved, eg smoking or baking into cookies.

There are many plants in the Cannabis-related family with a very few which have hallucinagenic properties. Same with mushrooms and toads with some have hallucinagenic properties. And the Belladonna genus as well.
And then there are ways that most have to be prepared before they can have any affect. I grew up where "Mellow Yellow" was a drug referring to Banana skins (never did find out how smoke the things or find a rolly big enough )
One of the more common vegetables (really a fruit) we frequently eat does have very poisonous qualities during preparation. Back in the late 60s/early 70s, a lot of Italian women in the Riverina district came down with serious poisoning, and a couple died from it. While some suggested one thing and another related to some dubious activities which were reportedly common in the area, it was found that it was not related to the dubious activities or their husbands trying to get rid of them.
Apparently, the Italian women were doing something that they have been doing for centuries, cooking tomato sauce. Somewhere during the cooking process when most were doing bits and pieces of taste-testing, the toxicity levels were very high and they were poisoned by the cooking. Now this could have been related to the high use of many types of fertilisers and pesticides, I never did hear anymore about it.
BUT it was only women born in Italy who were affected. This could be related to the healthier life-style they had in Italy compared to our high usage of fertiser and pesticides in the area. Never did hear anymore about it.
