tomcatwarne: For the sake of argument.

Prau tell me where the free will is when the alternative is eternal fire and damnation and punishment yeh unto the fifth generation, hey come on, if my ancestors weren't so good I don't stand a chance free willy or not.

for the sake of arguing over my free willy ..... I'm surprised that anyone who can believe in something as dated and utterly useless as a monarch doesn't have any room to even entertain the idea of believing their creator, God? thumbs up thumbs up thumbs up

Obscuritan: Hi jac379. I'm an atheist myself, but I don't see much point in arguing against religion on the basis of what we see as god's "faults". If there really is an omnipotent being out there who created the universe and "everything," then surely he/she/it has the right to give life or kill, create or destroy whenever it fancies?
We are meant to love god and fear god at the same time. God split himself into three and sent the "son" part to Earth to die in agony "for our sins, so that we may be saved." None of it makes any sense, it is all utter nonsense, but that still doesn't prove it's false.
Does it?

Yes, but the onus is on those who make these outrageous claims, to prove it.
The atheist claim that there is no God can also not be proven but at least they don't concoct all kinds of nonsense.
BTW, you seem more like an agnostic then an atheist.

All religions are simply organised superstition. They are belief systems not facts thus arguing about things which are impossible to prove is about as logical as the famous 'fighting for peace'.

Science is the enemy of religion which is why in the Westernised, secular cultures of Scandinavia and Australasia the rates of belief in, and adherence to, organised religious doctrine are much lower than in many other parts of the world. Over the next century, as we see more of the Westernisation and education of the previously unchanged, traditional societies of Asia, Africa and even the Middle-East there will be a similarly increasing trend towards atheism.

I can observe evidence for the begginings of this outside my door right now even in this, a previously hard-core location.

Atheism being a reaction against the oppression of fear based religion. In itself it is also like religion in that atheists purport to know for sure that there is no God. Religion knowing for sure that there is, and a whole lot of nonsense to go along with it.
I like atheism better then religion in that sense in that they only claim one thing that can't be proved.
The real truth is that no one has the explanation or knowledge about how eternity and us, came to be, or even if it ever did other then we are in it. Science has no explanation what there was before the big bang or what the universe is expanding in. Religion tells us it all started either 6 or 12,000 years ago, but does not know who created God or what that void he was standing in is, or when that began. Religion has been at war with science as it refutes ridiculous religious claims.
No one knows what will be after our deaths. The only hint we have is that it will be like before we came into life. Nothing,,, and that is not something.
Reality is contained, permeated and surrounded within a mystery. Einstein mentioned that. The realization of that mystery is true spiritual awareness.
We are in heaven, it's just that some, especially religion, insist in making hell out of it.

jac379: Hopefully, as humans we are rational and sentient beings who would argue against any genocide, rather than revere the orchestrator of a mass murder based upon the rationale that babies and children might be so bad they deserve to die.

That's who we should be, anyway.

Rational and sentient I am when dealing with my fellow man. However, there is no rationale in the spiritual world. GOD knows everything.........that´s why I wouldn´t presume to argue with him.
When he chose to eliminate the evil which existed in the world when the flood occured, it was because he felt it was necessary.
I will question till the cows come home any motives man has, cos they´re mostly selfish. Spiritually I know that all that God requires is that each person looks for him.

Personally, I am here because I like the site. Just because I am christian does not mean that my heart and mind is not open to other people´s beliefs.
God didn´t ALLOW anything. Man did what he wanted to do. How many times does it have to be repeated.......man has free will.
If you do not look for the light, you will remain in darkness. No matter what anyone else does, it´s you PERSONALLY, who has to shine.

tarris: it is said that fear of God is the beginning of wisdom
I guess you're a long way from either

Oh, you have wisdom, not at all. You are not capable of reason. You see something I write and instead of answering it like a normal person, instead you jab and I feel hatred from you. What a life you must have.
You are from New Zealand and you are the rudest guy from there in CS.
Most New Zealand men are the opposite of you. I dated a New Zealand man here. He was kind.

I have no fear of God because I believe in him and I deem him fair.
Do you even believe in God? All of your notes to me are full of hate.
I feel sorry for you, is there no joy in your life?

I just find it odd that both you and the Stringman feel so strongly about God but are here. Wouldn't it fit both of you more to go to a Christan site? It just seems like this site is full of dirty jokes, etc.

Then we get preached at by both of you. I believe that people have their own minds. Nothing is worse than people who push their religion on you.

Just like I would not go to a church not to far from me that has on it's billboard, things about Hell

This is just like talking about politics and religion at dinner, it causes an uproar. Either people agree and not.
I bet many a good dinner as been ruined.

Hiya Hoolet wave I've read everything in this thread and all I have to say is I give you credit for having the courage to speak out about your belief. I don't usually post in controversial threads for the exact reason I'm witnessing here. If believing in a God is something one chooses to believe in, so be it if one derives comfort from believing...I know I do. I bet there are plenty of people who believe in God and they are reading this thread but are afraid to post their opinion. It's amazing how many people on a site like facebook will send well wishes and prayers to others who are going through trying times and the sentiments are accepted by all. Strange world we live in. teddybear
