i just moved from California to Colorado.... California has a la against just about everything now. especially talking or texting on the phone. Colorado is like another planet. i see more people with thier phones to thier heads and looking at thier lap while driving than people simply driving. what about where you are?
vancouver's the same. against the law, yet every second car has someone on a phone. between jaywalking, folks on phones(driving or walking) new but only sometimes observed biking lanes...some parts of town are a driving crap shoot for sure.

Talking and texting on a phone is against the law where I am. It still happens though but not as much...probably due to the fear of being caught and receiving a hefty fine.

We have texting laws in the State of Ohio but you'd never know it to see so many people still texting while driving.

People who are texting while driving scare me to death. What idiots, they have to take their eyes of the road for several seconds. They tell me they are proud to be able to be multy tasking............... What can be possibly be so important to risk the lives of others?
Alberta just implemented a distracted driving law this year. The fine is $175.00 and they enforce it very strictly. Some people don't realize that for less than twenty dollars they can talk hands free with their cell phones. Much cheaper than getting a more expensive fine.
No texting or phoning while driving in New Jersey or New York.
I saw an advertisement for a car that has a screen where you can get your text messages and reply. The only difference is you're not holding the device. You're still taking your eyes off the road. When I see someone texting I get as far away from them as possible, especially if they are in back of me.

Given the capabilities of "blue tooth" technology one has to wonder that more people don't use these simple devices in order to be "hands free" while driving. I personally see plenty of people driving while the phone is glued to their ear ...... but I suppose its a matter of the police being more strict to enforce the laws. There was a recent article in the paper where the police were wanting to be able to confiscate someone's phone .... not sure if they need to go to those types of measures, but it doesn't make me wonder why they are not fining them as they have the right to do. Perhaps for repeat offenders.

Here in Ireland the only legal way to use a phone whilst driving is by bluetooth. The "old fashioned" hands free (earpiece connected to the phone by wires) is illegal.

Makes me think that perhaps vehicle manufacturers should consider some sort of communication device to be built in .... voice commands to operate it and hence hands free.

that is included in most newer cars.... but people driving all the other cars are like multiple grim reapers.

Even with a blue tooth device in your ear and hands on the wheel you still need to think about what you are going to say. When you're thinking about that, you're not thinking about the road and cars around you.
