This is the third time in about 12 months my account has been hacked. Each time my bank suspends all the accounts and it can take up to 10 working days to restore. I had to go in today and open a new account with another bank and now have to face the embarrassment of asking my mother if she can put some money in till it all gets sorted. How do these people manage to obtain this information from my savings accounts, any ideas? Has anyone else experienced the same?

Sorry to hear that, AA. No, it's never happened to me.
Do you do all your bill paying, etc, online? I would be checking any computers that you use for banking and making sure they don't a keylogger type virus.

I do do banking on line but I think this goes much further than just taking over a bank account, I think someone is actually trying do the complete ID theft.

Anything is a possibility but no one is investigating. Cops are not interested and the bank, well they said they are doing their best.

Probably why a lot of people open a separate account when purchasing stuff online.

I have a credit card with a fixed limit of $500. Anything over my avaiable liit is queried. This is the only one I will give out. When it hits the limit, they refuse payments without asking first. AA, maybe you should look at doing the limit stuff as well.

same bank each time AA?

I would consider changing banks, getting a limited CREDIT (not debit) card for online transactions. Or at least having a back up account with another provider to prevent similar things happening again.

I would also keep a record of which ATMS or shops you regularly withdraw money at and see if you can work out a sequence.

Hope your bank can work things out for you quickly.

ps.why I say credit card not debit card for online is the bank has to chase their own money for credit cards, but if it is debit your money has to wait until the investigation is over before you can regain access.
