We as Irish people owe her a great debt, she didn't flinch in the face of terrorism.

It is a horrible disease and heartbreaking to see someone living with it.

Tell that to the families of the hunger strikers - she refused them political recognition (even though Bobby Sands was elected as an MP)

She wasn't called the Iron Lady for nothing....

I completly disagree. She was a nasty piece of work who had no time for Ireland. I have no time for terrorists or any of the crowd but the way she acted during the hunger strikes was disgusting. She let men die and then when they were dead and buried gave in to the things the wanted. Who does that?dunno

She also was very far detached from noraml folk in the UK. Especially in the North and her only interest was protecting the rich elite like her husband and cabinet members.

sofarsogood74: Didn't know he banned ya. I have to disagree with you though. I explained why in that thread. But she is one of those people I suppose. You either love or hate her.

I was going to respond to your post but I was banned. He is one of those people who ban people from his threads for nothing. I would agree with you on aspects of deregulation and how it went too far especially in the financial sector. But it was some achievement bringing inflation from 20% to 4%. When she left, the NHS was transformed. Employment had risen. Growth rates of 5% were common. Education spending had actually increased when she left office from when she entered office.
Her biggest critics said she destroyed many industries but that was mainly down to shifting the economy from old industries into a more service based economy.

Yes but in shifting from old to new she laid over 70% of the UK into wasteland. Scotland, Wales and the North of England where hughly industrialised areas. She just shut everything down without thinking what it would do to the population of those areas. She did not try to replace those industries with new ones in that area. Everything was run around London and the surrounding area. All the money was made there and people prospered there.

But London and the surounding area is not the whole UK. Her job was to look after all the people in the country. She did not do that. The figures may show she did great things in certain areas of the economy but that is off balanced by the hardship she inflicted of a huge % of her people in my opinion.

I lived in England under Maggies rule ........... she was a very insular in her agenda, herself first, and the glory of GB was her be all and end all........... she had no time whatsoever for the Irish people ......... does that take away from the fact she was a great leader, that's your call dunno
