Just thinking of the events of the past couple of days, namely the bombings in Boston AND the bombing in Iraq which killed about 50 people which didn't get anywhere near as much publicity as the events in Boston - why's that I wonder? confused confused confused

It really shook me on Tuesday, I couldn't concentrate, things seemed so trivial and it made me think of how events like that effect people and if you were already feeling down for whatever reason, ill health, relationship break up, pet died, something like this could send some people into depression.

So I started to think about all the good things I had in my life like :

1. I am healthy

2. I have a job

3. I have a loving family

4. I have a roof over my head

5. I have plenty food in the fridge, freezer (oh and bottle wine wine )

6. I have met some wonderful friends on CS teddybear teddybear teddybear

There, feel better already yay

Like your perspective newie thumbs up

We live in the lap of luxury compared to the major part of the world's population and everything is here for us if we want to go get it conversing

Safety, shelter, opportunities, fresh food, water on tap, freedom of speech and all the other things we take for granted - yet so many live in these wartorn countries and have suffered and lived with uncertainty and loss with little hope for the future.

We are lucky indeed hug

Too right Serene, with my job I see a lot of people in their twilight years taking mountains of medications for all kinds of things and I often say "Aren't we so lucky that for whatever reason we can just pick up the phone, make an appointment, go and see the doctor, he might send us for blood tests, scans, etc." And THAT is what a lot of people around the world don't have? blues

We may hear the odd horror stories and yes, things could be a lot better in some cases as far as waiting lists are concerned - but it is there for us when we need it. thumbs up

Just driving down to one of my favourite spots along the water for 10 mins or so makes me feel a whole lot better. yay

hug So many things to be grateful for, we certainly do have it good here. I often think of how unfortunate other people are and how lucky I am that I too am happy, healthy and certainly wealthy compared to others. My kids are also happy, healthy and well adjusted. There isnt much not to like in my life. grin

Yes so very true, although, I do think often of the people who are born with or acquire debilitating diseases or disabilities and the burden that goes along with it to them and their families. Never having any respite, makes me so thankful that my kids and I are healthy.

Only yesterday I was dwelling on this. Thinking about a family I have known in my youth who had to manage with a Downes Syndrome child that they got too old to be able to properly look after, an aunt who has managed with polio since 1956, a girlfriend who has a Downes Syndrome 'child,' the work my father's Rotary Club and their families did with the local Spastic Centre (what they were called back then), what my son-in-law is dealing with now with his grandmother who has alienated the rest of her family, and how I was so far away when my mum and step-father had real needs for someone to look after them in their later years.

Yes, we are a lucky country when this country has managed to develop to where people can be looked after when something happens.

We have been lucky in that we have had leaders who have had foresight to our nation's future needs, not just for their own gains at this time.
