I have a meeting some time next week with my acting Manager to discuss the options put forward by our Director on how to fit an extra 8 bodies in to the limited space we have. Okay, I have had 1 spare desk in my area for consultants and students to use as they come onboard, and that can be used by 1. Need room for 7 more. "Oh, by the way, we will not be replacing 1 of your vacant positions. You will have to manage to do the work of 3 with 2. But changes will be happening and the good news is that some of your workload will be reduced." This equates to about 1/3 of the years workload for the Unit.

That frees up one desk. Only 4 of us now. And 2 of them have really separate functions to the main Unit responsibilities. So the theory is that 4 of us will be shoved into a small area big enough for 4 desks, just. No natural light and an aircon that only cools.

"What about our filing cabinets and bookcases?" "With all the reorganisation of the desks, there will be some room for them way over there. Okay, nohwere near you but you will just have to go over there whenever you need anything. The exercise will do you good."

Looks like I will be retiring very soon.cheering peace

Wash2u, my step dad retired a few years back now, he only got about 49thousand in super payout, so him and mum are on a pension, but they own their own home which makes it easier for them, the step dad has a mate that pays cash for drivers, they bring trucks over here from the east for some good dollars, that is always an option for you?

Curly, hate the thought of not being active (okay, sort of). Plan for next year was to take mega-time off actually working so I could do the things I want to do.

But if I do not enjoy my work and the conditions, I should not accept them.

I am in a position in my life where I can pick and choose what I want to do. But if I do keep out of the workplace too long, I may not have a choice if I do need to re-enter the workplace. Very much aware of that.

Just wish the doctor could give me the expected lifespan so I could plan for thatrolling on the floor laughing

Another thought? My sister and her husband also own their own home, I once looked after their home while they went for a trip around Australia, but they would stop at towns that needed people to work, which payed for their accommodation and fuel while they got too look around, it’s a working holiday, the money I paid rent payed their bills here plus I looked after their home till they got back, and their dog!
Retirement is not an end to being useful! Its just something different to do!

I was able to swindle 14 weeks long service leave after having had 7 weeks annual leave a couple of months back. Retirement is good. Have to go back only for superannuation reasons, but if not this year,...next.
