serene56: Why are there people on this planet that can't feed their children and have no access to clean water? Why aren't the basic life necessities available to all? Please explain
The world is not starving, at least not yet. But there are people who are starving. Why? Many reasons: environmental - droughts and floods, pests, etc., violence - civil wars and displacement (refugees), bad governance - corruption and plunder by the local leaders and foreign companies - people are starving even in resource rich countries, lack of skills and access to technology, unfair international trade practices where poor countries are subject to terms of trade that favour the more powerful, etc. Dependence creating foreign aid may cause more problems than it solves in many cases too. But in short, I think it is the inequality of power among people and countries - some always have excess of it and some none. So, some have too much resources and some almost none. Some data show however that extreme poverty and hunger are going down in the world, but is it temporary through foreign aid or are the countries really getting out of poverty trap, is hard to say. Some of poverty and hunger reduction is through the trade in commodities to the rising world powers - China, India and Brazil, for example. If the income from this trade could be distributed more fairly, many people would get nourishment. Whether or not it will happen is difficult to say
